I have spoken with my psychiatrist about the fact that there is always something negative or stressful on my mind. His suggestion of cognitive restructuring seems like a good idea. I get the basic picture of changing my perspective through practice, but he left out the details.

How do I learn to use cognitive restructuring to help me with my current problem about always needing something to worry about?

Thanks for your advise.

This is in my experience realm.
Go to the kindergarten. Watch how they solve problems among themselves,
Yes its basic but I think you missed a step when it came to problem solving.
to be" a crisis maker" and a" hand wringer" you have to be getting some kind of reward in the end....whatever that means to you.
you are rewarding bad behavior. would you do that to your friend?... Well stop it. you are your BEST friend . And just to wrap this up for you.....
Kids know the difference between right and wrong.simply and lovingly.
They would know to ask their friends "how do I do it"??? the same thing you just did!!! you arnt so far off the mark are ya now LOL
In my opinion Kindergartner's have the market on fun. drag your worried little butt down to the Kindergarten and ask the teacher if you can observe...Tax payers right. The kids will take it from there. good luck! let us know how much fun you had today(oh, and have a great time learning get over your self LOL)

I have had many problems with this in my life. Went to many psychologists/psychiatrists, etc. I have to tell you that one of the very best things I've done is stopping reading/watching the news. The media slams you with negativity and it is an incredible weight off of your shoulders when you get away from it. Try it for a month-- you won't believe how much better you feel.

I would also highly suggest starting to read/listen to CDs of people who have positive messages. I have almost completely turned my life around away from negativity and stressfulness by doing this. It takes a bit to get rid of those contstantly nagging negative thoughts but I promise you that you can get rid of it. I couldn't believe that it would work for me considering how negative I was but it really did...

Some books/CDs (the CDs I think are really the best method but books are a good addition) I've found to be very uplifting include: Wayne Dyer, Byron Katie, Ram Dass, Esther and Jerry Hicks, Paramahansa Yogananda, Neale Donald Walsh, etc. You might find some of them at the library to keep costs down. Also watching movies w/ positive themes like "What the Bleep?" or "The Secret" really made a difference for me. I'd suggest maybe starting w/ Dyer's "Secrets for an Inspirational Life" (link below).

Good luck! You can get past this! You're not going to believe how beautiful your life can be and how positive your mindset can become!

He / she is basically using big grammar to tell you to start thinking postively.
Its takes effort, and sounds cliche, but really you need to focus very strongly on the positive and make a very concious effort to snap out of the negative thinking. Over time and with practice, your outlook will get better.
Have happy thoughts you can think of, positive uplifting music when you are alone, positive encouraging friends, be thankful for the great things you have in your life, think of countries and people that really have life bad. start volunteering and helping less fortunate people.
Leave things that you have no control over alone. And focus on what you can control...yourself.
Get out of your head and you'll be fine.

my dad is the same way that is how he feels better is when he complains. I would do what the other person said sit down and write all the good things that are in your life. Also do things that you enjoy if boating is what you enjoy do that just try to do things to get your mind off of the stresses in your life. GOOD LUCK.

Maybe you need to sit down with pen and paper and write down your blessings in life. Then when you start to feel down, look at that sheet to remind you that life is not as bad as you think it is.
