This is what she said, with the measurements of the sac etc. i am measuring 6 weeks and 3 days....i asked if that was from conception or implantation and she said from the moment I got pregnant..then within 15 minutes she tells me that this date could be +/- 1 to 2 weeks...I contacted my gyno and they said no it could be at the most a week off but not more than that at this early stage..ok so here are my questions: 1. when she said from the moment i go pregnant that would mean conception? 2. has anyone ever heard or had there gestational age wrong by 2 weeks in the first trimester?

I am assuming it was a tech you spoke with and not an OB; either way, she misspoke.

Gestational age measures from neither ovulation nor implantation, but from two weeks before ovulation. Crazy, huh? It's because the measurements/calculations are dated from the start of the relevant cycle, or, the first day of your LMP. But of course, not actually YOUR last menstrual period, but the hypothetical date of your LMP using the textbook example of a women with a 28 day cycle who ovulates on day 14. If the archetypal human pregnancy is "40 weeks," that essentially means the estimated due date is some 38 weeks after ovulation (again, assuming ovulation occurs on roughly day 14 of the cycle).

In other words: if my period doesn't arrive at the expected time, and I go to the doctor's office for a blood test, and it comes back positive...at that point I am, medically speaking, 4 weeks pregnant.

As far as determining gestational age by ultrasound, it is most accurate in the first trimester; the statistics typically offered indicate that it can be off by 5 or 6 days. So your OB was right on that one and, once again, the person who performed your ultrasound was not.

Best of luck.

Actually ultrasounds in the first 12 weeks are the most accurate in determining fetal age. It can be off by a week or 2 because some women ovulate later than they thought they did or the baby implants later.

Ouch! #1 yes probably from conception, which would make you 8 weeks pregnant and the baby 6 weeks old......lovely how they calculate right? At my 6-8 weeks appointment they said he was consistant with 6-8 weeks baby, then at 10-12 week visit they estimated that he was 13 weeks baby. Theres no real answer to when unless you know exactly when you had unprotected sex.

She was probably talking about the moment you got pregnant. Second usually it is a wekk to 2 weeks just because the baby is so small and sometimes hard to tell. You should have another ultrasound done later and by that time it should be more proof than an estimate

yes i think she meant conception. I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound as well, they also told me the 1-2 week thing, i was only about 3-4 weeks prego and they said around the 8 week mark it would be easier to tell.

Yes gest age is from conception and gest age can be wrong all the time usually best know at beginaing 2nd tri tho (I think). But if there is no reasons that the gest age should be off I would guess that it is give or take 1 week acurate.

At 6 weeks it can be hard to pinpoint exactly where your at b/c of the size. it could be off by that much but it's unlikely that it's off by more than a week. you'll have another scan around 20 weeks and this can give you a better idea then.

Go to http://www.mybirthcare.com/calculator and put in your first day of your last period or your due date and it will tell you when you became pregnant and how far along you are.

Good luck and Congrats
