Either equation will give you the difference.

Say the average team attendance is 300, and the average overall is 200. The difference between the two is 100, whichever way you look at it.

whichever gives you a positive answer but basically if your answer comes out negative ignore the minus sign.

by the way it is stated.... the first is right... but either way you will get the same answer. just one will be negitive in which case you ignore it.
