My husband is in the military, and we just got orders to move to Spokane, Washington, anyone know what the area is like, or what the military housing is like. I hear alot of really good things about it, but I am curious as what the housing looks like?

Spokane is a wonderful place. Very easy going. It is the second largest city (third largest on some lists) in Washington. However, it feels like a much smaller city.

It is going to be much colder than where you are at now. We have extreme climates. Cold and snowy in the winters, very hot and dry in the summers.

I am not sure what the MILITARY housing is like on the base. However, the housing market is very cheap here if you want to purchase a house. You can get a new 1200 square foot 2 bedroom home here for about $120,000. Of course that number varies widely depending on the neighborhood.

Overall the cost of living is pretty low in Spokane, which is really nice.

There are lots of recreation opportunities near spokane. Lots of places to Hike, Boat, Ski, etc. etc. If you are into outdoor activities, you will be in paradise.

My wife and I decided to settle down in Spokane after we left the Military. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Good luck in your move!

Spokane is a great town - I've lived in the area all my life and really enjoyed the fact that it has a lot of amenities but doesn't feel crowded. You still feel really close to the outdoors. The weather is cold from November through March, but it is drier than you would expect and the four distinct seasons really do make things enjoyable. Spokane doesn't suffer from the humidity that makes summers beastly in the South and Midwest. The community really supports Fairchild AFB, which is just west of downtown. The Airway Heights area (where the base is located) is a growing neighborhood, but still has affordable housing available. Best wishes and thank your husband for us for serving our country!
