Scientist are open minded, they would say they don't know for sure but it is possible until proven otherwise.

Either way, it doesnt matter how many scientists think what regarding the possibility of alien life-forms because nobody knows for sure. On the other hand, part of the scientific method is to keep an open and objective mind until a given subject is *proven* one way or another. The truth of the matter is that universe is a big place it seems almost idiotic to believe that we humans on the Planet Earth are the only intelligent beings in the entire universe! But to answer your question, I'd say that virtually all scientists believe in the possibility of aliens.

So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

Carl Sagen (a famous scientist) said that there are between 5 and a million other intelligent life forms in the universe.

Most scientist doubt that any of them have visited us.

the universe is a vast place, with a vast number of stars, which a vast numberof will have planets.

Telescopes have seen stars as far as 20 billion light years away. and there are hundreds of trillions of stars, if not more.

It is reasonable to assume that life exists elsewhere, however due to the distances and limitations due to physical laws it is unlikely that any have visited us

One scientist vote for aliens. (never visited here though)

Not a scientific opinion just a personal one.

I think most scientists believe aliens exist.
Some who have faith in a god may not!
