I was called a few days ago to come in for a interview for this job I applied for at Sears, department store (loss prevention officer). So all day I am working on professionalising my resume and ironing my suit and everything so I could be presentable to the interviewer. I drive all the way up there today (12 mile drive, but would of been well worth the job) looking super snazzy in my suit and tie, with my resume all organized and together, and even getting their 20 minutes early and they say "oh, sorry the position was filled," I felt like going to nuts on them, but kept my cool and left. What the hell kind of business does this crap to people?

I agree that it is inconsiderate and in bad taste for them to have not notified you, but it's just one of those things in life that we have to deal with, whether we want to or not. You can't control their lack of consideration, so at the end of the day, there is no point in getting upset about it. Just move on and submit your resume elsewhere. The fact that you go to such trouble and preparations in applying for jobs is a great thing and says a lot about you. You'll find a great job soon, I can almost guarantee it. Good luck!

Losing your cool would have not been good, especially if going for a loss prevention officer position. You have to be calm, reasonable, alert, and professional in a position like that.

What they did was entirely unprofessional. I would contact the hiring manager and let them know of the situation and that you were not pleased. State the facts and be professional. Yelling, screaming, and too much blaming will fall on deaf ears. This could have been someone who did not call you as required.

I got someone fired by just letting the company know of the situation (I was called for an interview for a position not even relative to what I do and it was her 5th blatant mistake in 4 days).

Don't expect more than the satisfaction that you had your say. It will show that you are aware and professional. You never know, the person they hired may have not worked out. That's a long shot, but don't let it just end without saying something.

Companies don't care about people in general. Human Resources at most places is a joke. Just continue looking and you will find a place that values people.

The same thing happened to me before (well, almost). I interviewed at a department store and they agreed to hire me and even had me fill out a W-4. I took a drug test which I am 100% confident I passed. They told me my results should be back by Friday of that week and upon confirmation I would be called in for orientation. After Friday had come and gone I called the personnel office to find out if my results came back and they said yes. So I asked when orientation would be and she told me the hiring manager wasn't there so she couldn't answer that question. I never heard from them again. And btw, that was a 25-mile drive into a neighboring city.

Sears is lucky that you're not a member of some "oppressed group" -- otherwise you could claim that they turned you down when they saw you were black / female / whatever.

This cannot be the way that Sears trains their management to do interviews. It is horrible PR, leaves them open to legal problems, etc.

Well, look on the bright side. They could've wasted another hour of your time. And, even worse, these jerks could now be your boss.

I would take it positively and and feel lucky that I don't work for retail store. At this time of year, retail stores are lacking workforce. Not many people want to work for them because of low salary and abuse from customers. May be they hired first parson who came for interview. or may be it was just a formality, they already had the person they wanted. U know? some people get hired because they know somebody. May be someones uncle helped get job.

THAT'S TOTAL B*ULLSH*IT!!!! I would ask to see a manager and ask why you were not notified that the position had been filled. Tell him that you are there for an interview and you intend to get one. Everyone who applies should have an equal opportunity at getting the job.
He might say yes or he might think your crazy, either way he will remember who you are. He might even offer you a different job so you don't go to the Labor Board.

Unfortunately these things do happen.

It would have been professional if the recruiter or HR Manager contacted you before you took the trip.

However, don't get too upset. Focus on looking for a job elsewhere. Look at it this way maybe it was not the best job for you!

Be encouraged and best of luck to you in your job search.

God Bless......

dont you love how people dont give a hoot as to what you got to do to ful fill an obligation such as an appointment only for them not to fulfill their end. I was moving to another city once and on many occasions after i drove an hour and a half to view a listing I would wait and wait only then to call and have them say they had filled the spot..People who have something you need can always screw you over!

some breeds are a techniques more advantageous aggressive than others and the %. instinct is more advantageous strongly inbred in some breeds. The pit bull replaced into specifically bred with a number of instincts and body configurations in ideas. you've probably by no skill considered chance free human beings attacked or elementary them [somewhat with techniques from 2 or more advantageous pits]. that is elementary for pit fans to covet quite slanted debts and reason's for pit attacks a lot a similar as an alcoholic or addict covets their make believe version of why for his or her personal moves. This human habit of denial is even considered in politics the position many opt for to protect their social gathering or candidate so as that they gained't be "incorrect". The pit is a synthetic blunders, which has this kind of lengthy and horrid verifiable history of attacking unprovoked, killing, maiming, etc. etc. that if it were legal for persons to shoot them on sight [even in cities] and kill them at will that the breed must be borderline extinct except for the safe practices of the pit's vendors and guidelines hostile to such retaliation. timber wolves are nice to "their %./kinfolk individuals" also. The adult Pit's aggression to kill is so negative that police departments stay away from them.
