I go through this every year. Should I or shouldn't I... I have 200 cards sitting on my desk, that I have addressed and am ready to send out.
I will send them out - BECAUSE - it is not about the other people. It is about me. By mailing the card, I am sending out a little Christmas holiday spirit. If they send me a card back, great, if they don't that is OK too. But it makes me feel good to send the card out.
you card will bring a smile to someones face. you may not realize it, but they will like it - send out the cards.

You know, I feel the same way. I am surprised by this because the stores now have more varieties of Christmas cards to send! You can say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays - even little generic stuff like 'Tis the season' with whimsical words inside to let the receiver know you are wishing them the best this holiday season. I usually send out 50-60 cards every year (not counting the ones I give to co-workers) and probably get back a little over half. And like you said, I might get one from someone after I've sent mine (or even after Christmas). The thing is, there are cute cards out there for less that $5, so people should not say the cards cost too much. Yes, stamps have gone up but we send this quantity ONCE a year!
So I think less and less number of people appreciate the Christmas cards, which is a shame. I'd rather get a Christmas card than those darn two page mini-novels on every little tidbit the family, the dog and cat have been up to all year.

I appreciate getting Christmas cards and I always send them out. If after a couple of years I don´t receive a card from the person I keep sending one to, I just stop sending them one, kind of a "3 strikes and you´re out".

Good question I was thinking the same thing. I sent some cards out this year but I cut back a lot. The people I had on my list before has already sent me cards.... now I feel obligated to go buy more and send them out one! I like to send some out because I like to get mail that isn't bills but I think a lot of people are cutting back. I think most people feel obligated to send them out not that they really want to.

I love getting cards but am so busy that I have no had time to send any out yet. People love receiving cards in my opinion...it makes them feel special and I always love displaying my cards on a card tree.
I think it is always nice to get something from someone and especially Christmas Cards seem to make the season a little brighter:)

If you want to someone appreciate your Christmas cards, then send them to people who get nothing else for Christmas...people in nursing homes, the elderly, the orphans, the military, the people in prison...these are the people you should be spreading Christmas cheer to, not people who are materially minded and send you card only because you send to them. Send a card to someone you haven't seen or talked to inyears and see what happens. I just had that happen to me...an exchange student we haven't heard from in 10 years just sent a card and it was a wonderful feeling. People can appreciated Christmas cards...you just have to find out the right people to send them to.

I love getting cards. I am also guilty of not sending them. However I call all my friends a day or so prior to Christmas. I explain ,I don't send cards instead I call everyone to wish them a Merry Christmas. Exception to the rule: I do not appreciate cards from my insurance company, dentist, credit card companies etc. What do you think of ecards at Christmas?

I do. We send out about 100 cards every year and get about the same back. We read each one and hang them for the Christmas holidays. It's one small way to let people know you are thinking about them and being thought of.

I love to receive Christmas Cards! Just think about it...what usually comes in the mail...BILLS! At least when you receive a Christmas card you do not have to pay the shipping and handling, you don't have to reply back within some many days, you don't have to write them a check and hope that you have enough money for the stamp. And honestly who DOESN'T like to receive mail. That is what I think! Oh and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I only send Christmas cards every other year, regardless of who sent me what when. My advice: just send them to whoever you want without thinking much about it. Send them to people you sincerily want to, but not because you have to. Yes, some people will send you theirs when they get yours, but don't lose any sleep about it, it's a fact of life! ;=))
And I do appreciate receiving Christmas cards!
