if tv show, i would say maybe the Wonder Years..
but movie wise, i think Fast Times @ Ridgemont High was good, it addressed abortion, sex, friends, family.. everything.
american beauty is a bit weird, but i think highlights the dysfunctionality that many people have to go thru, and how it affects the kids...but more in the family atmostphere, not necessarily in the high school itself.
breakfast club was a bit cliche for me... altho it is a fun character study. as was pretty in pink.

The movie Thirteen!!! It is an awesome movie- with real problems. scary almost, but reality in this day and time, You can rent it at the video store. I sat with my daughter and we watched it together. It showed drug use, bad homes,sex, problems, peer pressure. smoking- all of it!
