i admire people who have to work over christmas (emergancy services), and if i had a job worth doing like that i wouldnt argue either, but i have to work on xmas eve, boxing day, new years eve and new years day, i am the only person in my local co-op doing this, if people cant buy enough gas, electric, milk, bread, eggs etc then thats their own fault, i think ALL shops should be closed for boxing day and new years day does anyone agree
i have told them to change it, or i leave, i worked last year over xmas i have kids and i am not doing it again (i suppose you could call me a moaner, but thats what im here for lol!

I totally agree with you pet, people shop till they drop no mater what, so if your store advertised they would shut at X time on Christmas eve until X time on the 2nd of January, then everyone would have to shop before then. There's giving service and giving your time. When you have little one's nothing should impose on your time, simple as, stuff the job and be there for your bairns. x

I agree that surely it can't be that hard for people to actually get it together to do their shopping so they don't need to do it on Christmas Eve or Boxing day or new years day. Crazy! Like the other person said, for some people it's like a panic because the idea of the shops being closed for a whole day is just too scary!
But on your side of things, that's a pretty unpleasant range of days you have to work, there. I'd be grumbling too!

I'd like to see big shops closed on Boxing day and New Years day, also Sundays like they used to be. It's only greed by big business that keeps them open, but say it's because we are a 'multicultural society'. I also go to my local Asda on a Sunday, but it wouldn't bother me in the least if it was closed. I also have had to work many a boxing day and NY day, and also getting home on a Christmas morning, but I didn't do it by choice, and I certainly don't wish it on anyone else. With regard to cinders, did she ever have to work on these days? And prey tell me Cinders where are these people who would give their right arm for a job? Certainly not where I live, where in summer there are plenty of twenty/thirty somethings sat about drinking, or riding off road bikes. If big business had their way shops would be open on Christmas day also! Good luck Rachybab and a Happy Christmas.

I agree but have to admit I always end up going to the store for something on xmas. They should close them and we should learn to live with it. In the old days nothing opened even on Sunday we need to stop being so busy and relax.. Haha sounds good.

People should prepare earlier rather than running around on X-mas eve. I can never understand it... ASDA is full of people (you start to dread going) on Xmas eve. It is as if they panic because it will be closed for one whole day!!! OMG!!

For little more than the minimum wage, I'd be tempted to tell them to stick it and then go and get a job at another local shop.

its up to you but with having a young family myself i would put my foot down, surely there are other people who work at your place that could share some of the shifts that need working. only thing is if you tell them to go stick there job will you be putting yourself and family in the **** if you loose your wage?

If you want to get on in life you have to be prepared to do unsociable hours at work. My husband worked most christmases when our children were young, we managed, and now he is in higher management, thanks to all his hard work over the years. These people that do nothing but whinge want to thank there lucky stars that they have a job. Some people would give their right arm to be able to get a job. Welcome to the real world!
