My dad lives in Germany and I have only just made contact with him again after years apart.
I live in the UK and I would love to send him regular texts but not sure how to?
Do you have to use a certain code or anything?

yes you need the code and from the uk its 00+49+ moblie number should work but the text might be 2 or 3 times more than normal

Just text and send. If he has a German mobile, you should put the dialling code for Germany (+49) in front of the number and drop the first zero.
It will cost the same as send a mobile in the UK.

well find out the cod to Germany first think it´s 49, so for example when I call Switzerland to a mobile phone I do +0041 then the number not much good with mobile´s but sure some else here will set you on the right track

01149 and then leave the 0 off the regular # and dial the rest of the numbers. It's about 20cents sending and 20 cents receiving with cingular.

You just text as usual, you write your message and send it. of coarse you need the correct codes , I think it is
00 49 the number of your dad minus the first 0,
i.e 0049 79XXXXXX

dial +49 drop the zero then the rest of the nbr
