I think you are confusing Majors and Minors with Sharps and Flats. The black keys on a piano are all sharps and/or flats. It requires more than just reading sheet music to develop a good understanding of how the notes work together (to create chords or scales). The most basic way to explain Major and Minor is: Major= happy sound, Minor= sad sound. I would suggest learning theory while learning how to read sheet music- it's not necessarily the most fun thing to do but it will help out immensely. The basics of theory start with the Major scale (do-ra-me-fa-so-la-te-do). The white keys on the piano make up the C Major scale. The black keys (sharps and flats) make up the C sharp scale. All other major scales (D - D#/Eb - E - F - F#/Gb - G - A - A#/Bb - B) will be a mixture of white and black keys. The circle of 5ths outlines this but you might be better to learn some basic chord theory before tackling that. Hope I didn't add to the confusion.... :)
