I want to buy a washboard to use in a folk band and wanted to know which type would be best.

Yeah, nice idea. Get a metal one, I think galvanised is best.
Don't forget to put a bicycle bell on top as well, for added interest.

I think metal doll,i love the sound ,do you remember the x-mas show Emmit otters jugband x- mas ,thats what they used ad although it was fictional i beleive they used a metal one in the movie
