The most irritating drivers on the road are young mothers, they are also the most thoughtless at specific times of the day, e.g. school runs, shopping.
The most dangerous, foolhardy and reckless are young males up to 26years old who, if it were not for other drivers evasive action and patience, would be killed (and others with them) in droves.
The most careless drivers are the elderly, not through rudeness but from lack of concentration and poor timing and slow reaction times.
The safest but most arrogant are young middleage males upwards to 60. In this same age group the women by comparison are the best overall for skills, and road manners. Younger women up to 24 are trying to compete with the male juveniles for sheer stupidity.
What is your experience of other drivers?

My sincerest apologies Phil C! I didnt see you....

From my experience the bikers are fine, it's the idiots on 125cc and under who think the highway code and traffic signs/signals dont apply to them. Most of the time the real bikers have to be doubly sure of everything cos of other motorists.

lol, taxi drivers, trucks, etc those are just vehicles they're still driven by people of different sexes and ages. I didnt include pedestrians because that's what they are pedestrians not drivers while they're walking :-)

I was not a professional driver, but I drove as part of my work for more than 20 years, totalling about 50,000 miles a year for 10 of those years.

Yes, you did omit the motorcycle drivers, who always seem to need to go faster, no matter how fast traffic is moving.

We need a category for transport truck drivers and taxi drivers, who seem to think that they own the road and that everyone else should get out of their way.

I would disagree with you in that I think that middle aged women, not middle aged men, are the safest drivers.

Bicycle riders deserve a mention - especially when they want to have all the rights and privileges of using a wheeled vehicle on the road, but don't stop for traffic signals and frequently drive on the wrong side of the road, without lights, and without signaling.

Finally, pedestrians who fail to look both ways, who step off the curb in all kinds of places, and who refuse to obey traffic signals create significant hazard for themselves and others.

I agree for the most part....driving doing my companies work I find several types....mini vans are in a special catagory..then we have the rather dangerous school bus drivers who think that traffic lights, stop signs and staying on one's lane is for everyone else..then taxi and public bus drivers (city type) with the " I'm Bigger Than you " attitude. Last but certainly not least are the cell phone freaks who wander all over the road, slow down to a crawl..etc..

No, but you can offer an opinion based on your experience and observation. Insurance company statistics will tell you younger females have less accidents, but they don't tell you the reason is they drive less miles, and that the actual number of accidents per mile driven is about the same.

Driving a wrecker I find more older males involved in major accidents than younger drivers, but the younger drivers having more minor accidents, and doing things like missing the driveway and needing to be winched out of the ditch.

I am a driving instructor and I find that there are good and bad in both sexes. Males will learn much quicker than females and be more confident, but once passed their test, forget everything. Females take longer to learn, lack confidence, but will remember what you have taught them. Men drive too fast and selfishly, women are too cautious especially on roundabouts. Personally I am in favour of re-sitting your test every 5 years.

Generalisations don't work as not everyone is the same. A lot of what you say is true generally, but not always.
