Isn't it kind of pathetic? People there are not your "friends", they're internet acquaintences, at best.

Someone please explain the appeal to me.

I actually joined originally to make fun of the site, although I now treat it seriously, I basically just use it as a place to store the quizzes I take online for fun. I don't have any "friends" that I met on myspace, I just found all my real life friends and befriended them on myspace. The only appeal I can see for those who do have a million+ friends is that they see it as a sort of online popularity contest, kind of like high school but online.

I have reconnected with so many people I've lost touch with over the years. Now being 25, graduated from high school, and college, I have managed to find so many old friends on myspace. It is also a very simple way to stay in touch with my current friends as well as my family, and make plans without anybody feeling left out - through bulletins, e-invites for parties going on, and being able to send a message to somebody who's email address I can't quite remember. Also, being a graphic designer as well as a musician, I use myspace to promote my artwork and music, and it's 100% free self-promotion. Can't beat free.

It is more a convenience than it is a place for "pathetic" people to go...though I do not doubt that just as any community, both online and in real life...it does have its fair share of lonely people.

I hate the phone, texting is time-consuming, so myspace is just the most simple form of communication for me. I have no intention of meeting strangers from myspace...however, to each their own.

I thought it was gay, but then I realized it Its just like email. I like myspace, I am able to keep in touch with my high school friends, I went to high school in Germany and it was so nice to re-connect with them. Also your close friends spend more time on the computer on myspace than they do out of their house. Its easier to connect to your friends besides of missing calls, or playing tag your it on the phone. My husband was in the Navy and its really hard to find everyone when you get out. With Myspace he has been able to get back in touch with all his navy friends. Myspace isn't for everyone. If you don't get it. Then you don't have to join, but If you understand what I am saying then try. I have got alot of bands on my page, and find out about their concerts, and if they will be doing a cover anything. You can even look for jobs, and roomates. Its not a bad thing. Hope that helps. If not I'm sorry. but then again, if your asking a question on yahoo. its kind-of like myspace cause you can put a bulletin on your page and have people respond the same way. Have a good and safe holiday season.

Well I hate MySpace, but, I must disagree that they are "internet acquaintances." I know quite a few people who use it to keep in touch with friends from past schools (high schools/colleges).
But yeah I don't get what made MySpace so special. To me it is like any other forum.

I know every single person on my Myspace friend's list. They are all family members and friends that I've had since junior high. Well - except for a local concert connection (gotta know who will be in town, I love concerts) and a baby photo contest (I love to show off pictures of my son, too).

I despise people that have 300 friends. It's idiotic!

Actually, 90% of the people on my friend list are people I know...friends that live far and wide, and we use MySpace to keep in touch, send each other little, silly comments and see new pics of one another. My sister, brother, sister-in-law, best friend and boyfriend are on there...all people I know in real life.

I didn't want to join at first, I thought it was immature and pointless. But my sister told me to try it, and then I was hooked. I enjoy sending laughs to my friends via funny comments (because I refuse to forward crappy, joke and video emails), keep in touch with bulletins to all at once, and get to see updated photos they post of themselves, their families, and their children.

Also, my sister's fiance was killed in a car accident this past October. His MySpace page is commented on every day - by friends and family members - it's a way for us all to stay connected to him. We just post like we're talking to him. It's all just as he left it, and always makes us smile. His sister even dreamed that he was sitting at a computer reading all of the messages...we "talk" to him often that way.

It's different for other people, I'm sure, but this is how I use MySpace in a positive and fun way.

Well, you are mostly right. I joined myspace because i thought it would be fun to make my own page and invite people to see it. Also to talk to bands and famous people. But it got really boring and I never really get on there anymore. Ur right the people on there are not really ur friends so it gets really stupid when people try to have like 10000 friends.

I operate on myspace, yet the only people on my friends list are people I already knew. I found a cousin I hadn't talked to in ages, and we've reacquainted via myspace. It also allows friends to keep up with what's going on in their lives without long phone calls and phone tag.
Don't hate on people who benefit from it!

Most people on myspace don't go on there just to meet cyberfriends, 99% of them communicate with family and actual friends. Its like having a personal webpage that would have updated photos, stories, etc so you network of friends and family can keep in touch.
