I've always liked formula car racing and love the leather jackets with all of the sponsors patches. I've found some very nice jackets, but they are made for motorcycle riders/racers. I would take the liner and armor out and just wear it casually with jeans, because I like the look. My concern is that people will constantly ask me if I race or ride (which I don't) or that the jackets are made for riding only, not to wear casually.

If it is a leather riding jacket then the leather will be thick and stiff and uncomfortable. The sleeves will be long and the shoulders will be cut to have your arms pointed forward as if you were reaching for the handle bars. The torso will be a little short since you should be in a sitting position while wearing a riding jacket. If you are just getting a casual sponsor type jacket then go right ahead and wear it. Don't forget the riding boots!!!

You see lots of kids wearing motocross gear to the pro races. Makes people smile to see that level of enthusiasm and/or naivety. However, seeing a full-grown man at the races wearing riding gear that is NOT racing --- eeeerrr, looks weird.

Also, race leathers are designed to be comfortable in one position - leaned over on a bike. Standing around in a riders jacket, you can't straighten your arms comfortably, the shoulders are all hunched and big, the arms are rotated forward, the sleeves are long.

There's nothing you can do to make them look 'right' unless you put the pads back in and go sit on a bike.

But there is hope! A few companies that make riding leathers also make casual clothing which has the look you want.

Try Ducati http://www.ducati.com/shop/product.jsp?catid=catimp02019&prodid=prodimp98252801 for expensive but italian-sexxy leather.

And yes, you will still get questions from riders. And get a sneer from even the nicest folks after you say you don't ride.

Think of it like this, would you wear a firefighters coat if you didn't walk the walk?

Not that bikers are meanspirited, it's just that no one likes a poser - no matter what sport/lifestyle/etc. they're posing for.

You will get asked constantly so if you are not ready to give out answers don't wear the jacket. I have a couple of Harley jackets and when I wear them people always ask me if I ride. The second question is always what do I ride. Unless you want to make up answers to these questions, I would just buy a regular leather jacket.

You shouldn't. It looks like most of the people that are saying 'go for it!' don't even ride themself.

I have a friend that was planning on gettig a motorcycle, so I gave him my old Joe Rocket riding jacket. He used to wear it in his car. I JUST ABOUT asked for it back.

I WILL NOT wear my jacket, unless I am riding my motorcycle.

Bikers don't like it when others wear without riding. It traditionally means they are 'posers', wannabees, etc (a loser that tries to belong with them, but can't)

LOL at f@rtblossom!!!

And people will constantly ask you if you ride. Once you lie and say you ride a 'Kawasaki', they will ask what size, than what year, and will almost INSTANTLY be able to figure out that you don't ride, unless they are stupid blonde girls looking for a guy to take them for a ride.

NO! I mean, if you really want to you can, but you'll look ridiculous. There are probably some people who will think that you look cool, but these people are also posers. Not to offend you, but I would say that the general public would assume that you were something that you were not, and it would probably be a waste of time explaining that you just like the look. Imagine if you saw a guy in a space suit. Wouldn't you assume that they were. But then again I think it's silly when people who don't play sports where team jerseys, so I may be wrong. Good luck!

Don't be a poser. Besides, racing leathers are made of 1.1 to 1.8mm leather, "fashion leather" is what, .5mm? You would be dieing in that! And like the other guy said, do we go walking around in full leathers just cause it looks cool? NO. Neither should you.

Federal law prohibits the wearing of any motorsports related garment unless specifically being used in a motorsports capacity, the punishment for such a violation is that Ryan D will visit you in his @ssless chaps and administer a bare bottom spanking!

Just like you don't need to live in Texas and have cows to wear a cowboy hat and wear boots, you don't need permission to wear what ever you'd like to wear.

If people have questions, you have 2 choices.

1. Answer the question
2. Smile and say "Why do you want to know?"

If others insist they aren't made for casual wear, demand to see the section of the penal code that makes it illegal.

Enjoy your look.

If you like it wear it. If you cant get over the stigma, then buy a bike or start racing. Maybe start lying, you could pick up chicks this way.

Who cares what other people think.

DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
