My office mate has a bad habit of leaving a couple of hours early on Fridays. This leaves me with the office which gets a bit hectic at closing time. I have begun to call her with questions about her accounts and such and once even told her she would have to come back because I didn't know what to tell her client. Of course I know what to do, but I just want to annoy her as she annoys me by leaving all the time. Is it worth looking incompetent to annoy her like this? My boss will not intervene about her leaving. She has 8 years senority over me.

Due to the nature of our work, I can't leave hers sitting there. Trust me if I could, I would.

you probably shouldn't look incompetent in front or your boss. not sure what the policy is there but you should also probably help out her clients- not their fault she's lazy. it will only make you look good and you'd be a very good example to others. in turn it would probably annoy her that you're doing the better job and that others are noticing. it may snap her out of it.

Welcome to the Layer cake. She has the seniority and if the boss isn't intervening, he/she may have an agreement you are unaware of.
Are you jealous because she gets to leave early? If so, grow up and do your job. If it's hectic, put the energy towards that, not how you can annoy your office mate. Remember that you will have reviews and if asked, these calls will show either lack of job knowledge or incompetence. "Those who cry wolf...."
Why would you sabotage your reputation for revenge? How would you view her if the situation was reverse? Remember, negative actions come back 3 fold!

1) STOP doing her work and 2) STOP looking incompetent. Your boss sees this too, and although you may happen to know the full nature of the business, you are NOT impressing anyone acting stupid, especially the boss. Also, this type of behaviour is childish, and will keep you from advancing in the company. Suck it up to one of life's experiences and just do your work and hers too if that's what is needed of you.

Heres the honest solution, first, stop doing her work because if you do it once, shell expect your going to end up doing it all the time. Tell that ***** that you're not going to pick up here slack or work extra for her and if here customers a dissatisfied let that be here problem.

First and foremost, pray for your co-worker and ask God to give you the wisdom of how to handle the situation. (I'm going on the premise that you have a personal relationship with God).
Next, talk with your co-worker when she is the least defensive. Maybe over lunch, or break time. It can't hurt.

she has the boss on her side and she has the advantage leave it alone or quit ; if you fight her they will find a way to fire you or get even by not giving you raises and making it hard for you in every way they can

I agree with juan s. Can you not do her work? If you can stop from doing her work than maybe the boss will notice that it is a problem.

Don't do her work for her and, since your boss won't intervene, maybe you should go over her head.

Man, I'm in the same boat. I just want to scream at her, and tell her to go away. Shes very nosey too, and always gets into everyones buisness. If you find out how to deal with yours let me know too. Thanks!
