My earliest piercings were done at the mall when I was 2 with cheap whatever in them.
After that, I didn't get any piercings until I was 14 and most were done with surgical grade stainless steel but my more recent piercings are all done with titanium.
Piercings should be done with surgical grade stainless steel, titanium or 14k gold or better (preferably 18k)

If you have body piercing done (like belly button, tongue etc) they often use titanium. Well, that's what they've always used on mine, although it might just be the parlour that I go to.
Ears are different because they're not a needle piercing. I think the studs they use in the guns come in either surgical steel or gold.
Basically, any metal they use is going to be fairly inert and therefore not that likely to cause an allergic reaction

surgical steel/titanium!! Not 9ct for body piercings alright in ya ears but not in other parts of your body, it's not a pure carrot. 18 & 24 ct is good, platinium, white gold! And it is possible to pierce your ears with a needle it is less stress than the gun!
Good answer ysm correct!

surgical steel at least until it has gone through the heeling process then you can keep any type of metal in there for a year to keep the hole open.

I got 14k gold. Don't get anything less than 14k gold. Sometimes silver will have nickel in it. That is not good. I'm highly allergic to nickel. Get 14k first, see how it takes then consider sterling silver or surgical steel when you want to change the jewelry.
