Tc = (5/9)*(Tf-32)

Tc = (5/9)*(77-32)
Tc = (5/9)*45
Tc = 25 deg. Celsius

Water freezes at 0 C and boils at 100 C. It freezes at 32 F and boils at 212 F. So a change of 100 C degrees is equal to a change of (212-32=) 180 F degrees. So the ratio is 100/180 or 9/5, and the C degree is larger than the F degree so it takes more of the F degrees or fewer of the C degrees to indicate the same difference.

Now you have to adjust the zero point, so degrees F must have 32 subtracted BEFORE multiplying it by 5/9 to get C degrees, or degrees C must FIRST be multiplied by 9/5 and THEN have 32 added to get F degrees.

C=5/9(F-32) or F=32+(C x 9/5)

C = (5/9)(F-32)

Where:

C = temperature in degrees Celsius
F = temperature in degrees Fahrenheit

If you need to show how to derive the formula you would need to plot degrees F vs degrees C and then calculate the formula for the line.

For example, plot this data:

F 212,122, 32 vs C 100, 50, 0

Determine the slope of the line from the plot which will end up being C = (5/9)(F-32)

I can email you an Excel document with the data worked out

Celsius Formula

C = 5/9(F - 32)

C = 5/9(77 - 32)

C = 5/9(45)

C = 225/9

C = 25°

The answer is 77° Fahrenheit equals 25° Celsius

IF you read your text book you would have found the formula in there for converting C to F.
the link below will explain it for you.

5F*5C -77F +77F/(5/5 F)= 25 C
Easy, ain't?

By the way, there is nothing to understand ... Ask your teacher why they ask you this silly question.
