I suspect the torque converter is going bad. The noise is not present in park or when the truck is in the air and in drive. The noise is greatest when starting from a stoped and subsides when overdrive is reached. The transmission shifts ok otherwise. The truck has 150+ miles on it. 4-6 eng.

Trannsmission problems on newer fords with the overdrive trannsmission is very common. I would not recomend flushing out the fluid and replaceing it with the amount of mileage you have. If you do the shop will make you sign a waver form seeing as your removeing thick fluid and replaceing it with thin fluid it may give the tranny a heart attack lol You can prolong the life by turning the overdrive off when not on the highway or travelling fast enough to actually need it. With the overdrive on it shifts more frequently and heat the transmission up.

You probably have a overdrive one way clutch not holding right in your transmission which will cause a whining noise. The one way clutch holds the overdrive planet until you reach overdrive and the one way clutch releases.
I almost positive this is your problem, seen it hundreds of times. Unfortuantely, it will require a transmission overhaul. If you drive it to the point that if finally lets go, it's gonna be harder on your pocket, compared to if you had it fixed now.
sorry for the bad news. Hope this helped!

If it does it always I do not know what it's. If it does it simply one of the crucial time, spontaneously take a look at changing the HAL results sensor at the distributor. I had an previous ford that performed up for 6 months, I changed this and that and it looked as if it would come and move, it used to be using me insane. Then an car electrician constant it in a hour. He stated all fords do it finally. Worth a take a look at.

Hey yeah def check the fluid, if it is low and looks dirty i would definatly recommend a flush and new filter, go to a shop to get it flushed most places usally charge around $60 to $100 for it. Also when they do the flush they should take the pan off and then they can look inside the bottom of the pan for chunks of metal that have grinded off of the gears in your trans. If they find that then the trans is shot and needs to be rebuilt or replaced. But a flush is the cheapest easiest way to fin out what kind of condition the trnas is in. you can do it ur self but it uses alot of fluid and time. Email me if u would like to try it yourself. I will give you the easy cheapest way to do it. miliciaman@yahoo.com
