I had a similar problem becuase I get excellent service from my cell phone provider and there is no need for land line. You can get a land line that is a data line. It is the bare bones minimum and it comes with nothing, you can't make long distance calls only a certain amount of usuage allowed per month, etc. People usually get it so that they can order DSL. It's like $5 a month and then the DSL is $12, which is way cheaper than what the cable companies offer. I have a junky phone attached to my land line in a drawer in my house with the ringer off.

If you're in the continental US, you can use WildBlue satellite internet. It's inexpensive and fast compared to other satellite internet providers like DirectWay (aka HughesNet). It is 2-way as well so it doesn't require a phone line to use. Latency is only an issue if you play multiplayer online games where low ping time is of the essence or if you plan on using a VoIP service like Vonage. 512k down, 128k up, $49.95/mo. Faster speeds for more money are available. Installation is free, equipment is a one time charge of $299. Must have a clear view to the south.

Cable offers the best option (speed and price). Otherwise satellite is the way to go, but that is much more expensive and has some other drawbacks (limit of 1.5mpbs and no VoIP phone because of the latency involved, - round trip of signal of 47,000 miles).
Check whether one of your neighbors has service and is willing to share with you either via WiFi or a wired connection.

Many of the wireless phone companies offer internet service with their phones, I just don't know how expensive it would be.

You could always just buy a wireless card and see if any of your neighbours have a network you can leach off of...
But other than cable, the only non-phone options are mobile DSL, which is slow and expensive, or satellite, which is also quite expensive.

I don't know too much about this, but I recommend doing a google search for "Satellite Internet Services". I think thats your last option, other than stealing free Wi-Fi internet from your neighbors.

Cable is an option. There's also the satellite, but I'd stay away from that. I've heard they have had bad reviews...

Through cable company is probably your best bet, unfortunately.
