Yes (though it wouldn't look like it now on this losing streak). Impossible to be objective about this and I haven't seen enough of this year's Leafs to suggest I know anything but here goes:

- Teams that will finish ahead of the Leafs for sure: Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa, One of the teams in the Atlantic and One out of the Southeast.

- Teams that Toronto will finish ahead of: Washington (yes I know that Caps are currently ahead of Toronto) and Philadelphia

Based on the above assumptions: Toronto has to be in the top three of the following teams to make the playoffs:

- Boston, two of NYI, NYR, or Pittsburgh, and two out of Atlanta, Tampa Bay, and Carolina.

I believe Toronto is better than Boston who will go only as far as Tim Thomas can take them. I also think Toronto will match up favourably with either Atlanta or Tampa Bay who are both streaky teams. Finally, Toronto should be better than the Islanders.

Arguments can go either way, as of now, I put Toronto 7th behind Rangers, Penguins, and Tampa Bay but ahead of Boston, Islanders, Atlanta, and Carolina.

They are surprising this year, that is for sure. Although not able to catch the golden team-that is obviously the Sabres- I woould be shocked if they weren't in the top four, meaning home playoffs at least through round one. Seriously, anything is possible after that. I mean one could argue that if the Sabres had had just one more defenseman they could have made it to the cup, probably would have won it. Who is to say what could happen should the so called favorites have key injuries when they play the Leafs in the semifinals? Once you hit the playoffs, things could break for the Leafs...but as for just getting there? Absolutely a very safe bet.

no this is usually the time of year they fall apart maybe a little earlier then usual but they've already drop 6 straight games, and they will play great hockey in the last month and the Leafs fans will come out saying they are the best team and again they wont make the playoffs.

savage>>>> YOU THINK THEY HAVE GREAT GOALIE COMMON LOOK AT THE STATS 100 GAA IN ONLY 30 GAMES TOP 3 WORST IN THE LEAGUE. NO DEFENCE.

I doubt it.
I think Boston and Washington are going to finish ahead of the Leafs.

i hope so, but i dont think it will happen. they started off great but now have lost 6 straght and are bac 2 their old ways. they dont seem 2 b gettin any better with all these 3rd period collapses. i think theyll end up jus like last yr in a race for 8th spot but then end up losing and b in 9th or 10th in the East.

Toronto's defense has to many holes in it and Raycroft isn't the kind of goalie that can cover those up.

Doubtful.

Nope. They'll be on the outside looking in. Come playoffs, they'll be golfing instead.

It is a possibility, but most likely they wont. Teams in their division like Buffalo and Montreal are gonna prevent them from being able to compete.
