Say you are looking to advance in your professional goals and you think this new company would be a great place for you to move forward.

Lets play a game.
Suppose you were interviewing me, and asking me why I wnt to quit my current position, and I'd go: "oh, I'm looking for new challenges".
What would you be thinking? Because i would think that it sounds like a load of bull, and the person in front of me is trying to cover up something.

You say you hate your current job, and you want to find a better one. That does not make you a bad person, it's life, these things happen. What you should really think is what exactly you dislike so much about your current position. It will not only help you define what other places could be good for you (unstead of just the same old crap in a new place), but will also enable you to give an honest answer:
I want this position because it is so and so, and I find myself a lot more productive in such setting.

Never diss your current employer, but don't be afraid to be who you are. Being honest and genuine shines way more that giving the old 'looking to expand my horizens' crap.

it's always a good idea to leave on good terms. you may be asked to provide a reference in your next place of employment.

it's best to be honest since it's a small world and if you found a similar position in another company, and they found out, you could lose credibility. some things you could say (if it applies) are:

1. you are looking for better prospects
2. you want a change from what you are doing now
3. you found that your interests lie elsewhere
4. you are looking to find somewhere nearer your home
etc

the idea being to tell them why you are going elsewhere rather than why you don't want to stay

You are pursuing new challenges due to the lack of advancement opportunities in your current position is a good one.

Another is that your interests have taken a new direction.

But seriously, you can say that you are dissatisfied in your current position. Honesty is the best policy.

You could just simply say you are looking to expand your career and your current position is not going to allow you to get where you would like to be :) That makes it look good on both sides!

I would say that you were looking for a fresh challenge or that you had exhausted your career moves within the company and you felt you needed somewhere that was pushing you to do better. Good Luck!

We need more information. There are many ways to be positive and move forward but it depends on what you were doing in the first place.
