When they decapitated people for crimes or hung them or tortured them in any way, isnt that defeating the purpose of justice?
Two wrongs do not make a right, right? There is a reason for the parties who lost a child by a criminals hand. But it seems it becomes a tool of enjoyment for some in government and those that pull the switch or give the injections, they seem to do this with a vengeance, would you want that job? How can we pay people to do our killing? Why do we think that is moral? Like the East Indian and getting trained elephants to kill for them in ancient times they washed their hands like Pontius Pilot? What is the alternative to stop this insane urge to kill?

I am sorry but in America we do not cut peoples hands off for stealing? And I never said that I dont believe in the death penalty I said there should not be the revenge policy anywhere that all seem to be chanting to me in their answers? I believe two wrongs dont make a right? Mob rulers are worthless and useless. There is no reason for torture ever. Swift and quick judgement by our peers with an unbiased judgement as well as a humane level of judgement.

The death penalty is wrong. First off, no matter how many appeals a person receives, the judicial process still cannot be perfect. Therefore, people who support the death penalty must realize that they believe a few innocent deaths are worth killing the worst criminals. We must acknowledge the system's imperfections and play it safe.
Secondly, it is wrong from a psychological perspective. What message are we sending to the world when we kill because someone else killed? Does this really help anyone, or is it instead used to provide emotional satisfaction? Instead, why not focus on faith based rehab. which I believe to be the most effective rehabilitation. We should change the criminal's heart and motives. Then, who knows what could happen. Are we in the place to judge a person's future?

Amanda said it best - it takes a very long time for the death sentence of a criminal to actually finally get through the system due to appeals. Even at the last minute, a criminal can get a stay from the governor of that state.
Two wrongs do not make a right but who said it was wrong? The criminal that went on the murderous rampage knew he was doing a wrong and did not have to do this. I'm not talking about the criminally insane or the ones who have killed in defense. I am talking about the guys like Charles Manson, Dharmer, Son of Sam, etc. These people get to live off of tax payer's dollars and all the while can claim their innocence. What of the victims of these malicious crimes - their families? How will you soothe their pain?
The alternative is to actually go through with a sentence and let the guilty take their punishment. Lately, a person does a crime knowing it is easier - even if sitting on death row with a list of "civil rights" that he wants honored because his cell is too small or the pillow is not fluffy enough.
Give me a break!

I do not agree that the death penalty in the USA is in the least bit torture or done for our "enjoyment".
The US seems to bend over backwards to make sure that the defendant's rights are protected from the moment they are arrested up through that last walk down death row. There has to be consequences for people who murder. The punishment for murder should be more severe than the punishment for robbery or assault...etc.
As a society, I do not feel any sort of obligation to feed, clothe, educate, or rehabilitate someone who took someone else's life and ruined a family, broke a mother's heart, possibly prevented another life from being born.
I believe that if the death penalty was carried out more swiftly and consistently, the instances of murder in this country would drop.
My opinion.

Nobody deserves the death penalty, no matter what you've done.
It's an inhuman punishment. Actually, you're not really punished, you're dead, but I think that being in prison for 20 years or more is a harder punishment, because then you've lost so many years of your life, and in prison you can think about what you've done etc.
When somebody is killed because he has murdered someone, it's in fact your country that kills him, and who wants to live in a country like that? When a country allows the death penalty, it's not very civilised, is it?
You can say that the people who kill those criminals, are criminals too, although they just do their job, when you kill someone, you're a murderer.
An alternative to stop this insane urge to kill... When you're really angry, when you get mad by anger, you can do things you don't really want to do, you can kill someone etc. Killing is in our nature, we are still animals. But there is of course a difference between killing because of anger or just kill someone in cold blood.
Anyway, I still think that putting someone in prison is better then killing someone, in that way you will get more revenge. When you kill the criminal, it's over, the punishment is already over, he's dead, he will not think about what he has done, he will not wast a large part of his life, no, he's dead.

Some crimes deserve the death penalty. Do you really think taxpayers should be paying for the Manson family to hang out in prison and get college degrees??

I so agree with the death penalty. You know what you did was wrong, you knew the consequences, and you did it anyway, so this is your punishment.
It likes people who molest children, cut their weiner off and they can't do it again.
If you cut someone hand off for stealing, I bet they won't do it again.
Besides the fact that people should know better, it would save taxpayers so much money and we would probably have less crime.
