India cotton sometimes a very coarse and sticky material, like a burlap material, like burlap bags that potatoes come in at the grocery stores. Silk was only worn by the rich, or their servants. The men wore tattered pants or robes, and the women wore a type of robe.

You are asking ware or wear?
Ladies used to wear some kind of combionation of sarong & overcoat. I am not so sure about gents. Probably they will just wear some kind of sarong (thin one) and mostly will not put anything on top. Definitely, they will all this if they have anything to wear, or they will use anything in any fashion.

Tupperware. Or what did they wear? Probably the same that they do today. Things change very slowly over there.
