Okay, so I don't want to offend anyone...but we have a few hispanic people who work in our warehouse. For some reason, they do not flush their toilet paper after they use the restroom. I don't understand why??? I don't feel comfortable asking them, but I thought maybe someone on answers might know.

Yes, they do discard the used tp in a trash can. It's pretty gross...

I do not know, but I have a guess:

Maybe in Mexico they do not have very sophisticated sewer systems and their toilets cannot handle wads of toilet paper being flushed without major upheaval to the pipes. Perhaps they have been conditioned to discard the toilet paper refuse in the trash can to avoid an overflow situation.

I cannot think of any other reason since the practice is actually quite nasty and would make the bathroom trashcan a breeding ground for bacteria. Not to mention an ugly visual display!

In some countries, the plumbing is so bad that you can't flush toilet paper as it will clog up the plumbing system. Often there is a waste paper basket right by the toilet to toss the paper in. Perhaps the people you are working with are newcomers here and think they are being considerate of the facility, not knowing that our system can tolerate flushing paper.

Do you mean they put it in the trash? Here is my answer if that is what they do....I have a cabin. The cabin has an outhouse. We do not throw the tissue in the ground,we put it in the trash. It takes up more room and does not degrade quick enough. Next, if you go on a boat, you also throw it in the trash not the toilet. It will clog a toilet. So these two scenerios may answer your question. If they are from a third world country, this is where they learned to do this.

Could it possibly be because they are from a third world country and they have learned over the years to be very conservative with water ? I know that when I was in asia people take a wash pan into the shower and fill it with water to take a bath instead of running the shower the entire time they are in there, they do it to conserve water.

Or as stated in the above answers they may have learned the practice because of the third world plumbing

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but, maybe they don't understand the "workings" of indoor plumbing? Who knows? I think we sometimes mistakenly think everyone grows up with indoor plumbing. That's not necessarily the case.

Because in Mexico they sh*t behind their shack houses in a ditch and they don't use toilet paper.

You need to say something that's nasty

Their pigs. And, obviously uncivilized-not all hispanics do this, only the uncivilized ones do.
