I know this guy with four children and in the military. His wife has no education, no desire to go to school and no desire to work outside the home. Sometimes he wishes she'd hire a hit-man because she'd be more wealthy when he's dead from all the insurance. If he were to leave her, she'd get (1) child support for all then children (2) she'd be getting alimony because she can't support herself (3) Half of his retirement pay (4)the cars, house and everything in it. Sounds like to me that this woman has it made and the guy gets screwed out of everything; plus he has to work for the rest of his life till he dies.

I would recommend going to see a counselor & working things out. It's not all about the adults in this situation, they need to think about the kids they created. They're the ones suffering by this situation.
Hypothetical or not.

It really depends on the state you live in. He'll only have to pay child support until they are 18 or longer if they are still in school. Oklahoma doesn't have alimony. If she has 4 kids, maybe she's taking care of them, that is a full time job. Sounds like they need a counselor. Don't jump to divorce without trying to work things out. She can change, especially if she see's that it is causing alot of pain in her marriage. If he's in the military then he's probably gone a lot and she's having to take care of the whole household with out him. I wish guys would stay home for a while and let the women go off and work...then they would understand how hard it is raising 4 kids. I just had two and that was more than enough for me.

Sounds like this woman is lazy and wants the world catered to her. I am an at home mom and raising 2 kids is hard enough. My husband was in the military and I worked outside the home. IF he does leave her, then he needs to find a bit** of a lawyer to nail her a$$ to the wall. If she has NO desire to work or educate herself, then the children would be better off with him.

I would suggest he talk to a lawyer. As far as divorcing and just "getting custody of the kids" it ISN'T that easy! Believe me! Going through a custody battle is a painful thing and stressful. Put the kids first! Once you have kids you have to stop being selfish and live for THEM! Watching him and their mom be in a loveless marriage is not the healthiest of situations but if there is love left try counseling.. maybe she'll see the error of her ways!? I'm 28 female been workin since age 14 and have an awesome son who I had to go through a court custody case against his psycho dad. (I won of course!) ;-)

If I were the husband I would either tell her to get a job or get the hell out. He is stupid for not making her get one because look what happens when they divorce. And if she doesn't work she won't get the kids because they will look at it as she can't support them. I bet he'll get the kids. She will probably get alimony because he hasn't made her work in so long. God bless his soul!

Are you sure you are not actually talking about your situation?? Anywho....She is USING him big time!!!! I would tell your friend to file for divorce and custody of the kids while she still has no job, etc because more than likely, your friend will be the better parent and the judge will clearly see that....he has a job and a means to support them kids. That's sad that woman does not want to help herself become a better person. she sounds like another anna nicole...when anna married that rich old guy and then he died and she fought hard and won his assests. Good luck!!!

Maybe your friend should be talking to a lawyer about his situation. Either way, I agree with the first post, they should have figured everything out first before getting married and having kids....

This is why people should think things through before they get married and have 4 kids.

Some things about being a woman suck but this particular one isn't one of them...I don't know the whole situation, but it sounds like she's got you by the balls
