The Gulf Breeze, Florida UFOs
Of the many accounts of UFO sightings, photographs, and videos, the sensational reports that originated in Gulf Breeze, Florida are some of the most controversial. Gulf Breeze was a small city of approximately 6,000 at the time of the wave of sightings that began in the winter of 1987. News of UFO photos par excellence spread rapidly and far, becoming a world-wide sensation, and the subject of a plethora of newspaper and magazine articles, and television talk and feature programs.
Though many sighted the elusive flying craft and snapped photographs of the glowing lights, the majority of attention was on one Edward Walters, a local building contractor. According to Walters, the sightings began on November 11, 1987. He was working late that night when his attention was drawn to a light coming from his yard.t the beginning of August, 1987, five military men from the Leningrad Military District were commissioned to the North of Karelia with a special task. The task was to guard an object of unknown origin that was discovered not long before on the terrain of another military unit near the town of Vyborg. The object was 14 metres long, 4 metres wide and 2.5 metres high. There were no doors or hatches on the object body.
All attempts to open it failed. There were attempts to break off something from the object, but they succeeded only in extracting some strange rods from the stern part of the enigmatic device. At the end of September the object disappeared from a hangar without leaving a trace.

There is no evidence of any kind that a "UFO" landed in 1987 or any other time. Ever.
The vast majority of UFO sightings are easily explained by simple natural causes. I myself was with a group of people one evening when they all starting shouting about a UFO on the western horizon just after sunset, a bright light that appeared to be pulsing and moving rapidly. Being an astronomer, I simply let them know that they were seeing the planet Venus, shimmering in the turbulent atmosphere near the horizon. Even then some chose not to believe me, and insisted it was a UFO. Ignorance is rife in humanity :)

So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.
Why haven't we heard from them?
Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.
Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.
Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.
Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.
Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.
It is really impossible to know for sure.
The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

There is NO evidence that any extra-terrestrial intelligence has ever been here.
If there is, it's being VERY well kept.
