If you read the story, though the set up is kind of Lord of the Rings, with dragons and swordfighting and elves and magic and things, if you pay attention to the plot it's really close to "Star Wars." The main guy doesn't know who his father is, and when he finds out turns out his dad was evil. Brom is kind of like Obi Wan. I mean, there are just so many similarities. But yeah. It's like a mix of lord of the rings and star wars.

the movie is based on the works of Kim Novik, read His Majesty's dragon, and it's sequels
