I have read as well as my own drving that most trips are short,under 5miles,usually in the city limits.I was thinks if says a 1000 people rode carts instead of their cars/vans it would save quite abit of gasoline and probably be chaper getting around town daily.

No, a golf cart is not allowable on most major thoroghfares. Some small communities may allow for it. But on the whole, you can't drive carts on streets where the speed limit is over 25 mph. Check with your local D.O.T. and see what they say if you really want to know for your area.

In GA, USA south of Atlanta there are some towns with golf cart trails and people use 'em to go to friends, grocery shop etc...

Chippewa Lake, Ohio has many golf carts used in the community. They all have brake lights, a horn, and Ohio state license tags.

Public streets require saftey equipment not found on golf carts.
Golf carts are often used in private communities...

Ask at your local dept of motor vehicles. I can get a dual lic. for my atv if I want to, I just have to get a lights, brakes inspection and certification & then pay the fees for the other lic. You have to really push for it, but it is possible.

Avalon, Catalina Island, CA. They are allowed, but they limit the amount, and you need to put your name on a waiting list to get plates for one.
