since a standard clock tells the time up until 12, before repeating itself, 180 degrees is half of this which results in 6 hours. therefore the hour clock takes 6hours to go thru 180 degrees, and the minute hand would take a mere 30 seconds!!

It takes six hours to go through 180 degrees. A standard analog clock has 12 hours in it. Those 12 hours correspond to a full 360 degree circle. Therefore half of a complete circle takes half of 12 hours, or 6 hours.

When the minute hand moves one full circle, the hour hand covers 1/12 of the area covered by the minute hand. That is, every hour, the hour hand covers 360*/12=30*. Hence, the hour hand takes 6 hours to complete a 180* rotation.

It would take six hours for the hour hand to go through 180 degrees. 360 degrees is a full circle (12 hours).
