I have just bought a Dell Insipiron 1501 laptop. Now that I have Internet installed, my Yahoo! doesn't look the same and it's a darned nuisance.

Where's the refresh button? Where's my essential "Favourites" button? Why is there a Google Search window?

There is a "bookmark" button, but I have to have a Google email account - which I refuse (on grounds of conscience) to have.

Freeman -- you answer does not help me avoid opening a Google email address so that I can change my settings and preferences. How can Google control my laptop like this?

Lucee - I promise! Every time I try to bookmark an address, I get a message that reads " register with Google to access your bookmarks"!

You answered your own question. You bought a new Dell, did you think the programs and browser features would be exactly the same as you and them setup before?

You're going to have to do some preference and settings changes in order to get it "the way you want"

Your laptop may have come with Internet Explorer 7 installed (that's just a guess,) which looks very different from IE6. And apparently it has come with the Google tool bar installed, also. And you DON'T have to have a Google gmail account to use Google and the toolbar; bookmarks are just another way of showing favorites.

Customize your Yahoo to suit yourself.

on the bar at the top that has File Edit View etc, go to the right of it where there is space and right click, this will bring up a list of toolbars...if it is still on your computer, click it to add to your browser....if it is not there you will have to re-install it...if that does not work, look at the verfy right of the browser at the top and see if there is an indicator that there is a drop down menu and if there is you can can just slide it out to show the rest that is covered up
