You have your "Gates" mixed up. Anyway, let's hope that Gates does outperform Rumsfeld, but I really think he's just another Bush plant. He certainly has had an interesting start. I so do not trust the President and his political machine, so much so that I'm starting to resemble the conspiracy theorists I usually make fun of. What I really think about this whole thing is that Rumsfeld got kicked to the curb for finally stating his real opinion to Bush instead of continuing to say what Bush needs to hear. Then, Bush appointed Gates with a different agenda. This one was to come out from the beginning with an apparent disagreement with the President. He basically said the same things about the war that the Democrats have been saying and the commission was expected to say. Bush has realized he's wrong and some major changes are long overdue. But, rather than just admit he was wrong, which he is incapable of doing, he planted the needed changes in Gates responses at the hearing. That way, he can claim he took the advice of a man he actually appointed. He doesn't have to look the fool by finally taking the advice of those who have been saying the very same things for a very long time. To me, it just falls right in line with man's inability to ever admit he's wrong, and this way his ego can remain intact when he says he has considered his SOD's findings and they have merit.

I didn't know the head of Microsoft was taking Rummy's position. His name is actually Bob Gates. Yes he will, he will approach Iraq from a more pragmatical stand point rather than an ideological stand point.
