There are a few in my school and a few around where I live that complain, I just can't see why. They complain about the education or curriculum taught in history classes. They complain by saying that why do they only learn about black history during the month of February but the rest of the year they learn about White History. The thing is that white or black both are American History, and I've been taught about the underground railroad, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X and other things through out the year, in the month of February we take trips to Black History Museums. Also, "White" History, look at the founding fathers of the good ol' US of A, they were white, if it bothers anyone to learn about them, then you have a choice, not learn and fail or learn and pass. They aren't making you, you choose what you take in or not, simple as that. Right?

Okay, the next time they complain agree with them there is a problem but why add to the problem?, don't be the problem be part of the solution, help fix it. There is no one stopping them from learning IT on their own. There are books available in the libraries (school, public, state). There are books available in the bookstores (Borders, B&N, BAM). Ain't no one stopping them from learning it on their own, sorry for the redundancy, wanting to stress my point.

I would do away with Black History month all together. It is a demeaning and subversive way to discriminate against African Americans. Though many do not realize it. You are right history should be taught as history, in chronological order. As long as we keep separating ourselves through hyphens. No one should complain.
p.s. I have revisited this site a day later, and Big Bad Momma claims to have gone to a higher learning college. She said and I quote, " I feel both your argument are dumb."
Hello, is anyone home? That is a terrible sentence for a college educated person. But wait there's more. Look at the sentence when she explains the contributions to society. Poorly constructed, and she doesn't even capitalize the beginning of her sentences, or the country she has God bless.

Wrong. It sounds like you're contradicting yourself. If both cultures history is American, then black history shouldn't just be confined to one month (the shortest month, by the way) of the year. Also, the black history ciriculum in most schools is very 1-dimentional. You learn about the same people year after year - as if MLK, Malcolm X, Fredrick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Sojourner Truth were the only blacks to make significant contributions to the country we know as home. There were hundreds of other blacks who paved the way as well. The point is that they leave out A LOT of the history and don't tell the entire story. In laymen's terms, it's not fair. But since the overwhelming majority of this country's education is in the hands of white women, that's they way it is.

Please note that my response will remove all references to color and race. It is an answer on how to deal with complainers.
Complaining has long been associated with whinyness and malaffected individuals who generally cannot find satisfaction with the status quo. A general observation of the situation will show that there is no benefit for these people in the current situation which they are protesting and that they often desire changes to obtain some benefits.
Most of these people run up against those who benefit from the status quo and are generaly content with it.
The benefits of complaining .
1. Changes. If not for our complaining forebears, women couldnt have been allowed to vote, alcohol would have been prohibited, there would be laws about going over speed limits of 35, and you wount be able to wear a bathing suit while swimming in the sea.
2. Development. People who complain are usually strong and are kept in weak positions. They will tend to dream up ways to break away from that weak position and are able to invent or develop ideas and concepts yet unknown in the present.
When people around you complain, think of it first as their pasttime. Complaining is one of the favorite pasttimes of man since ancient times "Why is this arowhead so useless ? "stomp stomp" I might as well say to the woolly mammoth "Here I am! eat me !"
The next way to deal with it is allow them to negotiate for themselves what they have perceived to be practical and liveable solutions to an existing inequity.
Somehow, also try to hold back the being annoyed thought because of this:
There, but for the grace of God, go I" You could have easily been in their shoes.

As a white woman who has dated black adult adult males (between different races), I could say that that's on occasion a controversy, even though if this is not in undemanding terms black women people who might have a topic. I even have been appeared down upon via white women and adult adult males people, besides. i think of it fairly is lack of expertise or a loss of information that love is colorblind that makes some people say recommend issues. i think of the place interior the rustic you reside makes a distinction, besides. My boyfriend lives in California, and there is not almost as a good number of a topic with people saying something approximately it as there is here interior the South the place I stay.

Uh i think the point is that there is as much black american history as there is white american history. They just want a fair share not a month dedicated to learning something different. I think it's very fair that they want to learn their own history and not yours.

wrong there is so much to black history then Malcolm x and the underground rail road just look at your text books how much of its is focused on any minority group vs white accomplishments it defiantly not equal and you cant base their complaing on just what they say and class chances are they have had experiences that have made them slightly bitter and b/c so many people refuse to acknowledge that racism is prevalent in today's society why don't you ask them next time they complain what they would do to change things
