At this point she wont feel too much unless she is laying down or completely still. Regular movements dont start until around 25-27 weeks with a first baby. Its normal to go even up to a few days without feeling movement this early in a pregnancy.

Typically, movement is felt sometime between 16-22 weeks. Usually a little later for first time moms. It can be very hard to distinguish between baby movements, gas, or hungry tummy at this point in time. The baby is quite small at this stage of pregnancy, on average about 6 inches long and 9 ounces. It is likely that your baby is moving much more than your wife can feel at this point in the pregnancy. If she hasn't already, she will probably have an ultrasound soon which will be a routine checking of how things are progressing. If you have any concerns at all, your wife should feel comfortable calling her doctor to ask any questions the two of you have.

With first pregnancies, the mother usually won't feel the baby move until around 24 weeks... sometimes earlier, sometimes later depending on how she's carrying. At 19 weeks, though, the baby's pretty small to be feeling it move. If she's not feeling anything by 25 weeks, she should contact the doctor.

Ai 19wks, the baby may still be too small to feel that much. If she is overly concerned about it, have her eat a high protien meal, like a PBand J sandwich and then lay down,a nd with out outside distractions, count the number of movements that she feels in an hour. The stillness of the mother's body and the protein will usually wake up the baby. if, after doing this, she has felt nothing, then i owuld give the dr a call. I do think that it may be tooe arly for her to be feeling to much, so try not to worry. Each pregnancy is different. With my firstborn, the quickening (first felt movement) was normal, in the middle of the second trimester. She kept her movement up regularyly after tha, always would keep me up at night kickin me to death, and she ahd the hiccups everyday, somtimes several times a day, very annoying!!! With my second, my son, his movement was late. I wondered if it was ever going to happen! His quickening didn’t come till about the 6th month, but then he never stopped moving after that. With my third, however, her quickening was in the first week of my third month. So early that the doctor rushed me to have a sonogram to make sure I wasn’t farther along than we thought. Nope, she just wanted to make her presence known as soon as possible! She then liked to play soccer with my insides, lol. I swear she was pullin on my phsiatic nerve!! LOL, i could feel her kick my organs, she would also do what felt like a full body stretch, that was painful. You wanna see babies really move you should check out my friends tummy! She is a surro mom of twins 39 weeks! Those little babies and go to town now! I've never seen anything like it! I am in the process of writting a pregnancy book, I will be posting parts of it on my blog if you wanna check it out at:(http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fus... In my book I discuss many things that doctors neglect to cover with expectant mothers. Hope some of that info is helpful!)If you wanna know more just about movement of your baby, email me and i can send some more info to you.

Fetal movement counting, often called kick counting, is a way a mother can help monitor the movements of her unborn baby by counting the number of kicks in a certain time period.

By 20 weeks gestation, most women are able to feel their baby's movements. But, movements vary in frequency, strength, and patterns depending on the maturity of the fetus. Generally, most fetuses have circadian (biologically timed) activity rhythms and tend to be more active in the evening hours, beginning as early as the second trimester. Hiccups are quite common, and a fetus may be more active about an hour after the mother eats due to the increase in blood glucose (sugar) in the mother's blood.
Set aside the same time each day to do the counting. After a meal is often a good time.

Write down the number of times you feel the baby kick or move in one hour. After several days, you may find the baby usually moves about the same number of times per hour - this becomes your baseline number.
Fetal movement is one indicator of fetal health. Contrary to a common myth, it is not normal for a fetus to stop moving with the onset of labor. Although the average number of kicks is about four to six per hour, each fetus and mother are different. Each woman should find the usual pattern and number of movements for her individual pregnancy. A change in the normal pattern or number of fetal movements may indicate the fetus is under stress.

If your baby is not moving as much as usual, or takes longer to move in the usual length of time, or has stopped moving, call your physician right away. Other testing can be done to check the condition of the fetus.

You might not feel anything at all at 19weeks. If this isa 1st pregnancy you usually start to feel movement around 20 weeks gve or take a few depending on body type. And eve when you 2st start to feel movement it's not like a huge oh "my gosh thats a high kick!" It's more like a "flutter" feeling as it's been described. and you'll usually feel the baby move more often after drinking a cold glass of water and putting your feet up and relaxing b/c when walking around the baby is "rocked" to sleep. But as she get further along in her pregnancy she should feel the baby move at least 10x and hour.

I am also pregnant with my first, I am 24wks I think once you start feeling your baby move it is kind of nerve wrecking because you think about it all the time. I had the same concern because sometimes I would feel him move a lot and other times it would be like one kick or roll every few hours my ob said this is normal because they are still small enough that you don't feel all movement but starting at about 28weeks is when babies start to establish more of a pattern and you can start doing kick counts....hope this helps ease your mind a little good luck!

You "might" be able to feel the baby at 19 weeks, but it's probably pretty far down in the pelvis. Your wife may feel a little fluttering, but might not know if it's gas or digestion or hunger or the baby... it takes a while before you can definitely tell... Give her another few weeks and she'll be certain it's the baby.

And nothing's wrong unless she's in a lot of pain and/ or bleeding.

Good luck!

She may not be at a point that she can feel every movement...little baby just may not be big enough yet!!! Dont worry. This is normal. I dont feel him every hour or every couple sometimes and I am 21 weeks. There are days when I feel him more than others. Many times...he will be awake while she is sleeping. If everything is going well, and you are going to doctors...then relax. He/she is growing, and when he wants to give her a good kick...he will!!!

You know....some women don't even feel a THING until like 24 weeks or so!! SERIOUSLY!!!

I felt things early on with my second (this one...I am 33 weeks) and at 26 weeks, I was concerned because I didn't feel as much. My OB told me that even at 26 weeks they (the fetus) is still so small that you can't even rely on kick counting to be reliable. I am sure if you call your wife's OB, they will tell you the same thing.

HOWEVER.....one thing my OB's office did for me a few times when it was too early for kick counting was to let me come in and the nurse did a doppler on me (hear-tones) to ease my mind. If there is anything wrong with the fetus, the heartbeat could indicate distress (if it is abnormally low/high).

TOTALLY normal to not feel regular movement at 19 weeks....and again..even at 27 weeks. Kick counts can start at 28 weeks.
