How do we know they are law abiding? If we had no way to find out, or no right to background checks, would MORE criminals buy guns? What about those who otained their firearm legally, and then used it in a crime? Are there any of those people out there?

You're missing the point...the reason criminals have to buy them on the black market is because of gun control laws. The reason they wait for a permit, etc...is because of gun control laws. So should we get rid of those laws? If we did, would less criminals buy guns? Or would more?

"Are all guns sold to law abiding citizens?"
Unfortunately no.
"How do we know they are law abiding?"
Other than a background check, we don't.
"If we had no way to find out, or no right to background checks, would MORE criminals buy guns?"
Laws and background checks don't prevent criminals from buying guns, they prevent them from buying guns legally. I don't believe the full-time hardened criminal would buy more guns from gun shops. Why would he? Not only is it more expensive from a gun shop, you have to register a new gun in your name. When you buy a new gun, it's registered and traceable to you. If I'm going to by a gun with the intent to use it in a criminal manner, I'm going to look to buy a stolen one off the street that won't be traced back to me if it's found after the fact or that cost me an arm and a leg to buy with the intent of dumping it after I use it..
Gun laws will never be able to prevent pre-meditated criminal acts. There are too many ways to get them. I do believe they help in other situations though.
"What about those who otained their firearm legally, and then used it in a crime? Are there any of those people out there?"
Sure there are, but I bet you'd find it's a very small percentage. Unless gun shop owners had a crystal ball to see the persons future they are selling the gun to what else can be done? Normal people go off the deep end all the time. Guns are sold to people with mental disorders who have never been diagnosed. Normal people get down and out and decide to do things they normally wouldn't do. They are not pre-meditated acts though, and thses people usually have no record of violence or criminal acts in the past.
"So should we get rid of those laws? If we did, would less criminals buy guns? Or would more?"
No, I don't think we get rid of the laws, they do work to an extent. As I said, I don't think the hardened criminal would start buying from gun dealers. I think you would see an increase of gun sales to people who are honest enough (or scared enough) that they don't want to own a stolen gun, but who don't fall into the hardened criminal category who pre-meditate their crimes. I think that gun sales would increase to those who, for what ever reason, decide to do a criminal act on a whim, out of anger or desperation (those are the ones less likely to buy stolen stuff off the street). I believe the laws intact now hit this area the most.
"You're missing the point...the reason criminals have to buy them on the black market is because of gun control laws."
Not always. Again, if they are buying with the intent to commit a crime, pre-mediated, they are most likely going to the black market, so they have less chance of getting caught after the fact. Now, would they buy one from a gun shop to keep at home? Probably, but not to commit the crime.

yes in a non general sense, we should not be hassled to by personal fire arms. There should still be something restricting military grade weapons cause of the damand they can do in such a little time. But as for handgun laws yes, cause only law abiding citizens obey them. Just look at DC, with a total ban on all guns it is basically a government guarantee to the criminals that law abiding people can't defend themselves. As for kid shooting themselves, i grew up in the country and learned to be responsible with gun when i was three. I was easy; don't play with a gun, don't point anything that looks close to being a real gun anyone, as well as, i was taught how to hold and shoot both rifles and pistols. If everyone did this with their kids, the kids wouldn't see guns on tv and be curious of how the things work when they find there parents. Ending up shooting someone or themselves. We have the right to bare arms so we can protect ourselves from OUR government, just look at the people in Miramar (burma) they can't liberate, much less, protect themselves from the dictator and his personal army.

Criminals usually buy there guns illegally. Why would anyone buy a gun permit wait 14 days and then go rob a bank. Think about it. There are dark alleys and bad areas where people do illegal deals on guns drugs even children and women. You must live a very protected life not to know these things.

I like the idea of bullet control
I think each bullet should have an identifying code embedded in it in such a way as to make it traceable even if the bullet itself is damaged.
Then everyone should have to register a copy of their ID and record should be kept.
Make it known that if a bullet is used in a crime it will be traced back to the owner.
A guns don't kill people, bullets kill people!

More criminals have guns than law abiding citizens. Whitch means if they took away gun rights only the criminals would still have them.
