I want to remove a section of an old asphalt driveway. Is there something I can pour on it to help disolve it or break it up so removing it is easier than just a pick axe?? I just need to dig a trench across it a foot or so wide.

Heat it then try to break it up

Elbow grease. You can take chunks of it out with a pick axe. Outline the trench you want then use a shovel to pry the large pieces up. Don't try and break the whole thing up, you'd be surprised how large of chunks can come out. Lot of work for a little trench but for a smooth edge you get a large portable saw with a masonary blade (if its not to thick you can use a circular saw thats old and your gonna trash after you use it.) Score around the edge and then pry the pieces up. (I took 2'x3' section out in one piece doing this) This can be more work and take longer than just using a pick axe and flat shovel.

For asphalt, pick axe will do it best. If you heat it up, or try to dissolve it, it just gets sticky. If you dig your trench right up to the asphalt, the foundation under the asphalt will come away easy, and the asphalt falls away quite well.

If the piece is not too large just pick ax it.
