I don't want to be sarcastic but good luck.
I don't know where you are so I'm going to talk about USA since I'm an American. The U.S. Embassy will not allow you to travel to the United States unless you have own an apartment, job, have strong family roots, and verifed money in the bank in her country. This is not easy since Russian people's mentality is to hide money under mattress. They don't trust banks and for good reason. Banks have gone out of business and taken their life's savings. So theirs a conflict.
It's not as easy as you think. I've been married to an Ukrainian medical doctor for 18 months and I'm still waiting. I have an American friend who waited to bring his Ukrainian girlfriend to visit him and they rejected her.
You can do it if you do it right:
1) Look at your Embassy's law to find out what the requirements are.
2) Check out the state department for the form you need to sponsor her and also the requirements.

Definitely your friend will need a visa. She will have to apply for one in Moscow or maybe St Petersburg. The consulate will ask if she has a job - and probably will ask for a reference from her employer. They will make a judgement whether she is a genuine tourist or someone who is looking for a way out of Russia - it may sound harsh, but so many people do want to get out of Russia. You can find the cost of the visa and the application forms on the website of the British Embassy in Moscow - look for the consular section.

First answer is really something!!! Yes, your friend does need the visa in order to come here. He/She would need to go to the embassy after he/she gets an invitation letter from you with the passport and $$ (somewhere around $100). The will be issued for three month. I heard there are some difficulties, so make sure he/she did it advance.
Good luck, and enjoy the holidays together,
Svetlana

I dont like your first answer at al!
I used to have friends come to the UK and they all needed visa's but its not a great problem to get the visa, the cost in sterling isnt a lot but in Russian money I suppose it could appear expensive.
I dont know where you are from but a quick phone call to your embassy should solve this for you and your friend.
I used to arrange exchange visits between Brits and Russians in the UK , we all had a great time together,I never came across a Russian who wanted to stay forever in the UK, but the exchange visits certainly helped with our understanding of each others cultures!
I hope you sort out your visa question, and at least please welcome your friend on my behalf, (we are not all bigots).

Jamie Paul W, your answer is absolutely inappropriate and silly in this case. However, let me remind you that America is based on immigration, so unless your name is Sitting Bull or something similar, you are Russian or Italian or Irish or whatever.
thomas_vcky, It's hard right now to get a visa, but it's still worth the trouble.

Your first answer was probably half right. My wife is Russian and she was motivated to 'escape'. Most Russians now though are use to coming and going out of Russia and the initial 'assylum seeker types' just isn't happening anymore.

Summertime outfits (consistent with danger the terrific of the three singles from Merriweather, a lot greater efficient than Brothersport a minimum of. i do no longer probable comprehend the hype for that song, it relatively is between the few AC songs i won't manage to get into. it relatively is purely me nonetheless) Tik Tok (No remark) Oblivion (did no longer like the between the Buried and Me song, Mastodon is particularly stable nonetheless) innovations Eraser (No Chaser) (on no account listened to this band earlier than now, yet I enjoyed this one significantly better than the different selection.) Crying Lightning (ought to on no account get into the Arctic Monkeys in the previous, yet this song makes me choose to grant them a 2d danger.)
