It is important for any pregnant women to make an apointment with dr as soon as she finds out she is pregnant. They may not take you until you are 12 weeks or so, unless you have had problems in a previous pregnancy. To get a pap smear, prenatal vitamins, urine tested, blood pressure checked, ect.

They don't have to go to a doc more often. Who told you that? It is actually the last 4 weeks when you go ONCE a week.

Your grandmother didn't go like that because they didn't have the technology back then like that do now to help prevent any problems. I, for one, like the fact that if things are caught early enough, there is possible prevention.

Some OBs won't even see a pregnant patient until they are like 8 weeks or so....and that is longer than first month, my friend.

My OB saw me at like 6 weeks for an intake and to give me information. That was the end of that.

But did you also consider that maybe some mothers are at higher risk so being seen and monitored more often is more beneficial to them???

It is an individual choice on if you want pre-natal care AT ALL, but I, for one, am all about seeing a doc to help ease my mind at ANY given time than not seeing one at all.

Your grandmother? So she was pregnant what, 50 years ago? A lot has changed! Check the fetal and birthing mother death rate and compare the numbers now to 50 years ago. Advances are made every day! Years ago they couldn't do or tell anything. Now you can look for abnormalities, run tests to make sure you are okay and so is baby. Why would you listen to your grandmother over health care professionals?

In your Grandmother's day it was different. The first trimester is one of the most cruicial time to be visiting the Dr. As son as you find out you are pregnant you should be getting a positive result from your Dr and then be going once a month

When your grandmother was pregnant they did things a lot differently too. Most doctors like to see pregnant women from 8 to 12 weeks. You need blood tests to check for infections and anema. They need to try to find a heartbeat to make sure it is a viable pregnancy.

No, not at all. My doctor won't even see you until 12 weeks (3 months). As long as its a normal pregnancy and you are taking prenatals, there is no reason to go in until the 3 month mark.

You really don't have to see a Dr. until your 2nd month or so... It's more important to see the Dr. more often during the last months of your pregnancy to make sure things are progressing well. In the early months, there's not much you or your Dr. can do regarding the pregnancy.

wait till she's 8 to 9 months she has to go every week 2 or three times to chk the baby...enjoy the experience its only going to happen once not twice or three times all pregnancies are different!

I didn't know that it really mattered so long as you make an appt. as soon as you suspect or get a positive HPT. If the physician can't get you in within the week they should at least call in an RX for prenatal vitamins for you, until they can schedule you in.
