I do not agree that foxhunting is harmless fun, and no, the fox does not enjoy it. The trauma of being chased by a pack of dogs can cause such intensive damage that even if the fox is not killed by the dogs they die later. The panic that the fox experience mean that they run so furiously that they injure themselves; tearing muscle, bruising organs, and yet keep running. So I don't think that foxes enjoy any of it.

The crux of the whole fox hunting debate, for many people, is the issue of cruelty.
Is being chased for several hours to be killed by a pack of dogs cruel? YES!! It is cruel, and it's unnecessary! The fox has no natural predators except man, and is therefore not accustomed to being chased.
If,and only if, there is a specific problem with a fox in one area, then shooting by a trained marksman is the only humane way to deal with the problem. Killing animals for sport and blood lust has no place in our society!!
Tell you what, lets have some harmless fun. You be my fox. I will ride my horse, and bring my four dogs. I will give you a 5 minute start. I think thats fair. Tell me where to meet you? I'm game, question is,are you????????????

I think that you can easily argue against fox hunting. How would you like to be chased by a whole load of people on horsseback with hounds? Just because it's traditional doesn't mean that it should continue to be allowed nor that it's the right thing to do. People should respect life and that includes foxes and other animals just as much as humans.

The hunting is only bad when the animal is caught or shot, which is not giving the animal much credit, for they can elude or sometimes even inflict death on their pursuers by leading them into danger. Animals subjected to threats like predation are evolving, any animal that is hunted learns how to cope, so in a sense they do profit from it. It's like bears in areas where not hunted are a greater threat because they do not fear humans. Hard to say what the fox enjoys but I'm sure they are satisfied to get a pack of hounds run over by a train or truck. No doubt dogs and horses as well as people enjoy a good hunt. As do those employed in the hunt, the raising of foxes, hounds and horses, etc. and people like poulty farmers who can "free range" their animals to keep PETA happy, because there are less foxes around. Being crushed, devoured alive, or dying of starvation and disease is not better than a bullet, in places now dealing with uncontrolled fox populations they are being poisoned, even illegally, and that sometimes accidentally kills dogs and other pets. The lack of employment and profit in raising animals caused by fox hunting bans hurts rural areas that depended on it or grouse hunting, yet no one cares about people suffering from decisions made by the masses in the cities. But the goal of a "foxhunt" is the chase, not the killing of a fox. It's a tradition as important to one culture as the taking of a whale is to Native Americans, etc. and it's no different to tell one person their culture is wrong about hunting animals than it is for another to dictate to another on things of sex, birth control, marriage, etc. I don't hunt foxes because I don't raise poultry or livestock right now, I do hunt but I eat what I take. If someone is a vegetarian, do they think no animal was killed by human hands to feed their cat or dog? Do they realize that in the 20th century over 1500 domesticated breeds of farm animals became extinct because there was no profit in rasing them?

Lets take the fox hunters and throw them into a tiger cage, without their guns of course, and see how manly and courageous they are in that scenario. That could be far more entertaining than foxhunting. Cruel, yes. But so is foxhunting.

Harmless fun? i think it is a pompus blood sport which is barbaric and cruel and is enjoyed by upper class people who view the fox as vermin. The fox deserves to roam about in its environment without a load of ruperts and blood thirsty animals chasing it.Fox hunting is outdated and as for harmless fun would you take a child to kill an animal ?

It's not about the fox. It NEVER was about the fox. It's about the weirdos who pursue the fox, dressed in those bizarre outfits. It's about our hatred of snobbery. It's about people smearing blood on the faces of teenage girls.
Who cares about the damn fox? The whole issue is about the class struggle, nothing more.
ps and it looks like the toffs are STILL doing it, so they have won again.

How about you tell those people that you want them to run a race chased by a pack of dogs ready to tear their throat out. At the end of the race, you tell the runner that they are going to get either shot or let loose. Now, ask the person if this sounds like fun.

For all you so called "hunters", when it comes to fox hunting, get off your horses, take off your shoes, but the dogs away, and the guns, and chase the fox that way, and make it even. As for you bear hunters, but your high powered weapons away and fight the bear hand to hand, you can use a knife since the bear has claws, and make it even. All you so called "hunters" make me sick to kill such a wonderful animal or animals. I can see it in self defence of you or your loved ones, but as a sport, and please "sport", get real. The only reason you have to use dogs, and guns, is because that poor animal has bigger balls than you.
