I heard those little half moon things are caused from lack of vitamins, but I don`t know!

The "half moons" show proper nutrition. Any color differences or unusual lines may indicate some type of disease or insufficiency

they are called cuticles and like hair, nails are made of protein.a presence of cuticles indicates you are fairly healthy an absence means your not so healthy.
