Possible answers:
1. If you're having dinner, a good bottle of wine. (If they don't open it for the meal, don't be offended; they're not obligated to open it right then since it is a gift.)
2. Flowers are always appreciated, even if from the grocery store.
3. If both parents have a shared hobby (vacationing, golf, etc), a book on that subject is good.
Anyway you go, don't go expensive or flashy, especially if you're a student in high school or college; they know you're broke and will appreciate anything that's thoughtful. Plus, the best gift of all will be for you to display respect and thoughtfulness towards your girlfriend without coming across as fake.

It depends on how old you are. Flowers and chocolate or wine usually goes over pretty well. Ask your girlfriend what they might like.
