I have the same problem! I did some research on this a few years ago and found out the reason why this is difficult is because the dates technically change every year. You know how sometimes your birthday is the first day of summer and sometimes it's not? Same thing. So magazines and newspapers get it wrong all the time because they don't change every year but just stick to one or the other to keep it simple. You're supposed to calculate what's called a birth chart which will tell you what sign you were actually born under. Or if you don't want to do that, you can use this website:

They make you join as a member but it's totally free. When you sign up, you put in your birthdate, the year you were born, the time you were born, and the location. Then it'll calculate what your sign should be and give you horoscopes and whatnot.
