I have been on Mirena for 3 1/2 weeks now and I am still bleeding.........I know this is okay...........my question is how long did most of you bleed for? A month, a couple months???? Really, I just want some kind of hope that I might stop soon!!! My usual periods have always been light, for 3-4 days (usually 3) and I am not used to this!!!! Did I mention I am a full time breast feeder??!!! I am drained from that, having a constant period and lack of sleep!! Thank you for any help you can give me.

I have had the Mirena IUD for 3 years now. I was one of the fortunate women who had little spotting and no bleeding, so I only spotted for about 5 days when it was inserted. I have heard from a few women who have had a hard time with it. Everyone is different. One woman told me that she never stopped bleeding and it had to be taken out! Don't be scared by this. Like I said, everyone is different. Be sure and talk to your doctor if you are having concerns. I love the Mirena IUD because I don't even have periods anymore. I remember feeling like you do now. New mom, feeling battered from giving birth, no sleep, breastfeeding every 4 hours! Keep it up! Kudos on breastfeeding. It's the best choice for your child. Here is the Mirena website if you haven't visited it already. It has a FAQ section that you might find helpful.

I am also on Mirena and have been for about a month now. I haven't heard that bleeding for that long after getting it put in is okay. I only bled long enough for my period to be over (they had to put it in on my period, and my period lasted about 5 days). I have to say though that I started my period four days sooner than usual this time, but I know that that is normal when you first go in it. I don't know what to tell you, girl. If the doctor told you that it was normal, then I guess it is. Like I said, though, I only bled about 3 days after having mine put in and didn't bleed again until my next period, which is now. And as far as I can tell, everything looks normal in the way of my bleeding. Good luck with it.

I have had the Mirena for 6 mths now. I don't actually bleed anymore. I have spotting off and on very often. I was used to having very heavy periods .......so I really don't mind the spotting. Just is more of an annoyance then anything. Other then that I love having it!

Good luck!!

It depends on what do you consider "bleeding" If you are changing your pad every 2-3 hours bc its soaked then you need to see a DR asap. If its pantininer bleeding its okay and normal. I spotted on an off ofr 6 months esp after sex. and have been period free since. Every woman is diffrent and it varies. If you are trully concerned discuss this with yoru DR when they check the placement next week
