Sweetie, why wouldn't it be? The things that you need to worry about are things like medications and cigarette smoke, even second hand smoke. Be very careful about over the counter medications, they can affect your baby.
When it comes to food there are many different stories depending on who you talk to. Some people will tell you not to eat certain vegetables like cabbage and that sort of thing. (These things never bothered my babies). There are mothers who will swear to you that you cannot drink or eat dairy products....I always did! It is just a matter of doing what works for you. Every baby is different and you will find which foods do not make your baby happy.
Eat healthy and use common sense. I nursed all four of my babies for well over a year and have counseled many women. The most important thing I can say to you is to eat, drink and rest. Everytime that the baby eats, you eat something too, even if it is just a little something. Also, another secret, when the baby drinks, you drink. The role that liquid plays in making milk should not be underestimated. You need water to make milk. Drink lots of fluid. Keep a glass of juice or water in your hand all the time. Third rule, rest! The reason breastfeeding is so wonderful is that you have to rest to feed your baby! You cannot say, "here feed the baby while I do a load of laundry". By the very nature of it, you have to sit down and put your feet up to feed your baby! If you can, go lie down and nurse the baby. If the two of you end up taking a little nap, all the better.
The other beautiful thing about nursing besides the wonderful health benefits for the baby is that you will burn up around 1000 calories a day just by breastfeeding. It is the only time in your life that you will burn up calories like crazy while doing virtually nothing. Enjoy it!
You are doing a wonderful, fantastic thing by breastfeeding your baby. It is vitally important to you and to your baby. You are giving your baby a gift that no one else can give him or her. You have every reason to feel very proud of yourself. You have taken a huge step towoard being a wonderful mother already.
Good for you!
Love and Blessings

Yes, just watch what canned foods you are eating. Like when you were pregnant stay away from to much tuna fish, get fruit in light, not heavy syrup, etc..

I don't see why not... it's not like we solder the cans with lead any more. Just keep an eye on the sodium content; you'd be surprised how much salt that can of soup really has!

Yes of course. Canned food poses no threats as long as it isn't really really old or damaged.

yes... but you should limit your canned tuna fish to 1 and 1/2 cans a week.... because of the mercury.......
and remember to watch your sodium intake and drink plenty of water.... best wishes!
