I don't know that I would call us a imperialist nation but I think we can consider ourselves a financial monarchy. We have those who make decisions and run the country, civil servants, and we have those who financially support the civil servants, who do things not always in the best interest of the country as a whole.
remember that you and I have to worry about the future of Social Security but our elected officials, those we pay with our tax money, have set a separate financial system for their retirement
not affected by our Social Security problem, civil service retirement.
Money is the river upon which our ship of state rides and we can see by looking at the U.,N. Human index report that although we have this vast wealth, we are 7th in the world when it comes to adjusted income - what you can do with the money you have after taxes - 7th in the area of medical care for citizens - 7th in available schooling.
when that wealth is divided among our various functions of government, our army has to have a reason for demanding the money they want - regardless of the trillions they lose each year - and the only reason to ask for more money is war.
I wouldn't think imperialist as much as school yard bully - taking trillions in loans from other countries in order to appear to be benevelent in helping other nations fight off smaller bullies, buying loyalty from others by foreign aid we spend the borrowed money on, arrogant in that we spend money to explore space and yet not doing anything about the homeless problem in this country and we have squandered the money earmarked for victims of Katrina and other natural disasters. many victims of Katrina have yet to receive the aid intended for them while others received payment 2 or 3 times for the same thing and millions have been misplaced.
Perhaps the best thing to be said about this country is that with the internet we have we can make the changes needed and we are doing that although very slowly and might yet go back to being the Rupublic our forefathers intended us to be.

Yes, I do think it is imperialist. Of course, we had an explicit policy of imperialism in the 19th century -- Manifest Destiny, the "White Man's Burden," and other such documents which argued that we should "civilze" the native american tribes and explore other islands and lands for religious, political, and natural resources gains (plus, that's what all the other big boys were doing at the time).
Now, our imperialism is largely socioeconomic. We consume anything we can get our hands on, and other countries are happy to oblige (although if they do not have economic power of their own, we will just consume and spit them out, without regard to human rights, workers' rights, or other economic factors).
The war in Iraq is a form of imperialism, as we once again show the world that, so long as the country is weak enough, we will bully (without international support or really any justification) toward our own "ends" (WMD? Democracy? Saddam's a bad guy? Terrorism?? Who knows? Who cares!)

The coverage of extending a rustic's authority by using territorial acquisition or by using the enterprise of economic and political hegemony over different countries. The equipment, regulations, or practices of the variety of government. of course we are, economically, yet not territorially. we are additionally imperialist in terms of values. Thank goodness we are. There are dozens of countries that wish the united states to be much less effective, pull back on business enterprise, and enable them to compete, however the concept that we could consistently handicap ourselves to be honest in a international atmosphere the place fairness is approximately is a lot from the minds of our opposition as giving their very own human beings freedom of speech is is purely stupid. Your expectation that we modify that's stupid. Imperialist is like that different be conscious: wealthy. that is grow to be a bad be conscious because of the fact of persevering with efforts by using socialists and those functional to socialist (i'm not calling you that, yet my fact remains actual, regardless, of others) to vilify the effective human beings so as that they are in a position to undermine our economic equipment and set up a socialist u . s . right here. Goodness, they even say that overtly! that is not a secret, human beings, that is a few thing they freely choose! to try this, they have crash our economic equipment, and that they could be patting themselves on the back dazzling now. Imperialist? sure. i'm hoping we proceed to be in all yet territory. that's a mark of our fulfillment as a rustic that we are in a position to accomplish that with out doing something yet protecting our allies and doing business enterprise legally.

The US has over 700 military bases in over 130 countries. It also has a history of invading, or funding coups and backing the resulting dictators in countries where it percieves its (America's) interests to be under threat (Iran (1950s), Chile, Phillippines, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Argentina, Haiti, Dominican Republic). This is not liberal fantasy, or a conspiracy theory, this is historical fact.
Whether you call this imperialism depends on your political leanings. Some would say invading a soverign country to control its natural resources is the mark of an empire; many right-wingers will just claim "manifest destiny".

Imperialist does not have freedom of choice and it does not have laws that protect the people or a balance of government. Now sweetie, we have been dumb than dumbier on the Iraq War, and these last six years have been the era of the Cowboy of the Wild West. Shoot before the shoot you, but the people will prevail and they always do because of The US Constitution. The framers had foresight that the idiot would ride in from the West and cause havoc, but now the people have spoken and he has to put away all his toys. He will not be the last idiot, but remember, the US Constitution gives the will to the people every 4 years..And that is democracy at its finest.

You don't even know what "imperialism" means.
Imperialism: the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies.
America is not extending rule of law or authority on any other nation. America is not taking anyone's land or resources. America is not acquiring or holding any colonies or dependencies of any kind.
Please tell us HOW is America "imperialistic." You have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm not sure we are one way or the other. But, so what if we are?
Human history is chock full of Empires rising and falling.
And I would venture to say that we're definitely not alone in "hurting and killing people who can't protect themselves". Wouldn't you agree?

I really don't understand where you're coming from or why you think it's imperialist. It is definitely not, and I don't think I need to waste my time explaining. Educate yourself.
