I have installed a outdoor wood burner and was wondering how to hookup a 2nd thermostat to control just the furnance (LP gas) blower while leaving the original thermostat to function if the house temp goes too low?

If I understand you correctly you do not need a second thermostat at all. Leave the original thermostat set to you "back-up" temperature and the gas will only come on if it reaches that set temperature in the house. The blower, however, is thermally controlled when the thermostat is in the heat mode and will operate independently from the furnace.

I am a heating service man, I tell all my customers with wood burning fireplaces or free standing ones to install a thermostat to turn on the furnsace blower. The reasons for this are1. the fireplace will cook you out in the room where it is located and freeze you out in the back rooms if your regular thermostat is satisfied. 2. If you have a a/c stat mounted somewhere above the fireplace where heat will gather, it will turn on the blower and circulate the excess heat to everyroom in the house. Now, most newer furnaces come with an internal relay for blower operation all you have to do is install a close on rise in temperature stat ( usually about 25.00 for a cheap one at a home depot. run a lead from the r terminal on your furnace to the stat and a lead back to the g terminal. When the thermostat calls for the blower to run it will only run till the temp drops a few degrees from your set point. IF you have a/c installed in your house using the same furnace- you need to turn the main disconnect off on it because some thermostats will allow a back feed aand turn the a/c on when you energize the blower circuit. So, just play it safe- turn off the a/c disconnect. For your situation just install a regular stat and set it higher than your normal stat. If the wood burner can't keep up- your regular furnace will come on line again tying into the blower relay circuit r and g.

Most of the new thermostats have a blower on-off switch so you can leave the blower running all the time at a lower speed.

Ok, however you'll need to be certain that this thermostat is asking for warmness. Get a meter and examine it in keeping with the wiring diagrams - if you know the way to do it and when you do not, its beautiful effortless you just have got to to find the fashioned wire and then experiment the other contacts for vigor. I might say if you're other stat used to be turning on the motor but this one is not, then there is anything improper with this stat.

you have to get a relay switch that is 24 volt operated and hook it into the power leads to the blower. Then hook the thermostat wires to the relay switch
