The correct pronunciation in case 1 is FORT, while case 2 is FOR-tay.

Case 1 is from the French, meaning strong (strength).

In case 2, forte is not a misspelling, but the musical notation for "louder". Like most (all?) musical notation, this is Italian, rather than French.

Correct Pronunciation Of Forte

Yet another sad situation where people answer that don't know. The true pronunciation is like "fort," because, yes, it comes from French.

That being said, many dictionaries are now showing "for-tay" because it is so often screwed up. It's just like the word "judgment." There's no 'e' although morons decide to put one there.

The correct pronunciation is to pronounce the "e" at the end of the word like a long "a" sound. The word "pianoforte" is the full version of the commonly used word "piano". "P" (piano) in music indictes a soft or quiet sound, and "F" (forte) indicates a loud sound.

The proper pronunciation of the word is "for-te", meaning "ability to do something". So the first definition is the proper one; the second is a misspelling of the word "forty". I would suggest you get both a regular dictionary and a French-English one, because "forte" is a French word...good luck!

Monga. If it have been pronounce "mainga" it would be spelled "Meinga", because of fact the "a" sound continuously makes an "Ah" sound. So the two the 1st and 2d "a" might make the "ah" sound.
