as a former NYC'er (I will 'assume' you mean the city itself)... I love the ethnic diversity and that the city is overwhelmingly liberal in contrast the the rest of the country except the other mega-cities.... out here in the burbs they are clueless how to treat the city people and dont give a good goddam nohow.... racisim is MUCH LESS alive in NYC. The general non-city populate is material and self-center beyond reason and bigotted beyond my tolerance level.

When I was in New York a few years ago, I thought it was so exciting...until my friend and I had to ask for directions. For them, a few blocks is actually a mile, they find out you are from Cali and get their butt cheeks all wadded up...that attitude really sucks! The cab drivers drive like bats out of hell - in a hurry to take the longest route.
I did like staying at The Mark, New York, which was really great and had a buggy ride into Central Park.
Other than that, the people were just rude. But there are rude people everywhere. They just seem to thrive on it.
