Damien Martyn has made a shock retirement from all forms of cricket. Who should replace him? The men called into the squad are Andrew Symonds and 27yo Adam Voges, but isn't this the ideal time to blood a younger next generation batsman?

I've enjoyed watching Marto over the years. Really knuckles in and gets the job done when in form. Sad to see him leave. Australia has lost a fine player. Maybe he'll change his mind who knows.
I'd like to see Phil Jacques given a run. You shouldn't be playing so well in Domestic cricket and be overlooked when a place comes up in the test team.

It is indeed shocking to hear about his retirement. He has been a solid batsman, and was in prime form in the recent Champions Trophy, especially in the matches against England and India. I still hope he changes his decision.

However, if there is a need for replacement, I feel that Andrew Symonds could play in Test Matches; and Mathew Hayden or Justin Langer in ODIs instead of him (note that these players could play both Test and ODIs regularly).

So so sad Marto retired under these circumstances..... What are his averages? They are pretty good and yes he is not so young anymore but my God....... 2 massive wins in Bris and Adelaide and a home town test coming up.......... How sad. He is NOT the only person to struggle at times but has copped far more than most when he has............. Thank you Marto for some fantastic cricket over all these years and all the best in the future and cricket has lost a champ.

phil jacques. the days of 21 year olds playing for australia are long gone. hayden, langer and martyn all had their best period aged 28 and up, when you have learnt your own game enough, now hussey is doing the same, he would not have achieved this much as a 21 year old thrust into the test squad. you can come in at age 28 and still play 70 tests.

I think Andrew Symonds will replace him in the next test. Since Australia have sufficient bench strength of talented players, replacement for a player should not be a problem for them.

Definately Roy .. He is clearly Australias best all rounder .. He can get handy quick runs in the middle order with his batting strength, He can bring down important wickets with the ball, and boy is he an awesome fieldsman.. his athleticism is nothing short of brilliant. Andrew symonds all the way.

I think Phil Jaques will get a more permanant possition in the test side. It came as a surprise to do it the week before the Perth test. You would have thought that he would have done a goodbye test in Perth.
