Terrorism, its a major factor in the world at the moment, and you could argue whether a war on terror is actually worthwhile, considering cost to governments, infrastructure and the earth, and taking into account the loss of life and serious injury to civilians, troops and other living creatures and plant life, also not forgetting the pressure it adds to families, emergency services and even tourism

I think a good one right now that's really starting to heat up is global warming and is it caused by humans or is the natural way things are. Like do we go through normal warming periods or does the polution like CO2 we're putting into the atmosphere affect the earth. Something like that or you could do things on alternative energies and are they worth investing in. One of the major deals with that right now is E-85 which is mostly found in the midwest due to the fact that it's made out of corn. Would it be economical to convert more cars to it and expand, but then what about need for food and other factors. I really suggest that you do something that interests you and hope you find a good topic.

Do something that is of interest to you, not just something ordinary otherwise it will get boring.

Although I don't know you, some interesting topics might be:
- owning a dog versus owning a cat
- going to college versus gonig to a trade/vocational school
- pursuing your ideal career versus going for high income
- having a lot of acquaintences versus a few, good friends

All of this might be good ideas that would be pretty easy to do.

Good luck!

There are all the major issues like war, abortion, gay rights, euthanasia, welfare, social security, etc. which are all common topics. You could always turn to something simpler and argue over whose favorite book is better. Try personalizing your topic.
